Visionaire is a “multi-format album of fashion and art” published 3 times a year in limited numbers. Each issue has a different theme and format, and the lastest issue, N° 55, is entitled “Surprise”, appropriately enough because this issue is devoted to pop-ups. Visionaire produced this issue in collaboration with House of Krug and “Surprise” include pop-ups by Sophie Calle, Andreas Gursky, Cai Guo-Qiang, Steven Klein, Yayoi Kusama, Alasdair McLellan, Steven Meisel, Guido Mocafico, Nicola Formichetti/Gareth Pugh, Sølve Sundsbø, and Mario Testino. The pop-ups come encased in a dark purple cloth-covered case with a magnetized closure and engraved metal plaque. Visionaire N° 55 is printed in a limited edition of 4000 copies. You can get a copy on the Colette eshop here.

10 years ago MJ debuted his now famous “Mouse Flats” and in celebration he has teamed up with one of our favorite artists KAWS to collaborate on a version of the shoes. In true Kaws style you get the “x’d” out eyes and the scalloped chomped detail around the edge of the shoe. The shoe drops this Monday Sept 29th and will be available at Colette in Paris, Original Fake in Tokyo, and MJ stores in London and the US. With only 200 pairs made . . . we wish you luck! Better start lining up now.
On Saturday, September 6th, the much awaited Colette x Gap pop-up shop on 54th & 5th opened to the public at 10 am. I didn’t make it to the store until 12:30, and I figured that by that time any line would have been over and done with. I was wrong. Very wrong. The line went around the block. I took my place and prepared myself to be there a while. Luckily, the Labor Day parade was making its way down 5th Avenue and the music and chants of the union workers made the time pass a bit faster. Two hours and a dirty water dog later, I finally made it into the shop.
The first thing I saw was the Alexis Mabille x GapGreyJersey bow purse (pictured below) and I was in handbag heaven. I grabbed a purse and made my way around the shop to see all the product and tried to decide what else to get. I decided on the bow purse, a mug and a notebook. Some of the products were already sold out when I got there (about 4 hours into the shop being open!). There were only a few pairs of the Repetto GapGreyJersey ballet flats and I saw a woman pick up the last of the Longchamp Pliage GapGreyJersey bags. The Kangol GapGreyJersey (pictured below) are marked as “coming soon” on the site but they were already out. Even though they were limiting the amount of people in the shop it was still a bit chaotic - you could feel the anxious shoppers nervously going through product and trying to decide what to get before it was snatched by someone faster. I documented the shop as best I can and you can check out more pics of product after the jump.
The Colette x Gap is open until October 5, 2008.

Our favorite ladies’ street wear brand across the pond, Not Bad For A Girl, just launched the first part of it’s Autumn/Winter ‘08 collection. Karen Jane, the designer, does an amazing job with typography and I always look forward to see what new ways she’ll find to make letters works of art in and of themselves. This season does not disappoint. Her first 3 pieces are tees that state: “Girl”; “I’m Doin It, & Doin It, & Doin It Well” and a logo tee. The “Doin It” tee is hand drawn and is “a[n] homage to Too Much
an obscure female emcee responsible for the original track later re-released with LL [Cool J].” All of the tees are available in several colors. I especially like the photographs and how they are all in triplicate. And, I like how the models’ eyeline matches the shirts - ah, the details. The line is now available exclusively at www.notbadforagirl.com and instore at Colette. Check out the rest of the pics after the jump.
My very first Always A Lady post had to do with leaving something to the imagination. It appears, I’m not the only one to subscribe to this belief. One of my favorite fashion reads, the JC Report, always asks a trend setter what they think is hot. This week they asked Guillaume Salmon, PR Wiz for Colette, and he goes on about the state of un-dress in Paris. Check it out!
Married to the M.O.B. teamed up with Colette to produce a co-branded Reebok Freestyle High. The shoe features a white leather upper with the MTTM Lips Logo printed all-over, a translucent pink outsole with the MTTM Lips Logo visible through the outsole, and a keychain.
Only 300 pairs of the shoe were produced, and more than two-thirds of the pairs have already been sold by Married to the M.O.B. and Colette. ALIFE is proud to be the only retailer in North America to be able to offer these shoes.
The remaining pairs of the Married to the M.O.B. x Colette x Reebok Freestyle High will be available in very limited quantities this weekend at ALIFE NYC, ALIFE LA and ALIFE Vancouver.
Emporium of all things très chic, Colette is getting ready for a makeover. From July 7th to August 25th, Colette will be closing it’s doors while its interior is redesigned by Japanese architect Masamichi Katayama, famous for his work A Bathing Ape stores, BBC stores, Original Fake and Uniqlo in NYC. While the store is getting remodeled there will be a “superette” parked out front where people can continue to shop. Word on the street is that on August 8, 2008 there will be some great collectible releases. The store isn’t the only thing getting a facelift, stay tuned for a website redesign as well! Also, later on in the year, Colette is teaming up with Gap for a one-month installation store next to Gap’s NYC flagship at 54th & 5th.
The Colette e-shop was just updated with some great new product - here are my favorites!
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! It looks like Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel are in some trouble! They were kidnapped and now it’s up to you to save her! Hello Kitty Black Wonder is an event held in Hong Kong from July 17th through August 3rd. Sanrio has teamed up with a bunch of sponsors and collaborators including Colette. We’ll keep you posted on the collaborative product as it rolls out. As for the event, if you’re going to be in Hong Kong anytime from July 17th to August 3rd, please say hi to Hello Kitty for me!
The ladies are rocking the boy-dominated boat of streetwear. Leah from MOB recently did an interview with BKRW where she talks about what it’s like to work with Colette and her new upcoming collection that will include denim, tops, outerwear and accessories. Take a look for yourself and see what Leah has to say . . .
Also just in - Mama was interviewed for Legend Magazine and talks about what it’s like to run a women’s line in such a male-dominated industry. Read the full interview here.
Jeremy Scott has released another collaborative Pliage bag with French bag company Longchamp. The bag is a very clever play on a “gold” card. I really like this one but I think I might like the one with the footprints all over it the best. You can check out his footprint bag here and his pink poodle bag here. Which do you like best?
