We’re getting all fired up to hit Mercedez-Benz New York Fashion Week, which is right around the corner! Frothing up the boil, designers have begun to send out some sneak peek sketches of what we’ll  be seeing on their runways in a couple of weeks.  Established swimwear legends Gottex sent us this image, a first glimpse of their new collection, executed by their new head designer, Central State Martins alum, Molly Grad. She sports an impressive resume, having honed her skills at Stella McCartney, Yves St. Laurent, and Gianfranco Ferrer. On working with Gottex, Grad says

“Gottex has an amazing heritage. I am going to take the DNA of the brand and give it a fresh direction with out forsaking it’s incredible past.”

Ports 1961, a collection out of New York’s Meat Packing District also hit us with two sketches for their first Fashion Week outing. The collection, started by Tia Cibani in just 2004 has been building on their successes in by embracing the modern, global woman, and making “beautiful clothes that represent value and quality.”  Operating as a luxury brand within a global village, the brand aims to connect with their consumers directly by presenting in the tents while they explore their beyond-borders lifestyle concept of “Craft Meets Innovation.”

Artist/Designer Maiko Takeda Takes Jewelry to a Whole New Level

Central Saint Martins graduate, Maiko Takeda, has developed a truly breathtaking new concept in the art of jewelry making.  Her complex and elaborate ideas have ripened into everything from a counter-balanced, gravity-defying hat to a two-piece engagement ring meant to symbolize the union of two individuals. Her new “Cinematography” collection is just as unique and ground-breaking. On her website, she states that, “The collection questions whether shadows might obtain a quality in themselves and can adorn the body as jewellery.” These statement pieces, with raised surfaces covered in tiny drilled holes, create shadows that hover mysteriously below on the skin. Avant-garde jewelry that, when given the right light, projects incredibly detailed shadow tattoos? Sounds more eye-catching than even the glitteriest of cocktail rings. Takedas’s sculptural designs look just about as surreal and imaginative as they come, but her ideas are actually reflecting the beauty that lies in logic. She echoes the way 16th century Italian Renaissance artists believed logic and the understanding of space and perspective through mathematics created beauty and harmony in their paintings, Maiko Takeda states that “Numbers + logic + space form the common denominator” in her pieces. Truly a stunning and intellectual new addition to the art of jewelry.

Priestess NYC/Shanghai is a women’s contemporary line based in New York City and designed by the fabulous Cody Ross. One look at the pieces and you know these clothes are for girls who are out on the town going to parties and dancing the night away – and now that I’ve met Cody and seen his bubbly personality first hand, it’s no surprise that his clothes convey a glamorous, yet happy-go-lucky vibe. Priestess NYC/Shanghai is in its 5th season and the line has been a success from the start with celebrity trend-setters like M.I.A., Katy Perry, Kerry Hilson, Juliette Lewis and Björk all fans of the line.

Cody’s interest in fashion began as a kid – his mom was into fashion and he gathered lots of inspiration from her wardrobe.  He was always sketching and designing on the side.  Later on he had a career in finance, but while he was in graduate school in London he took night classes at Central St. Martins and learned fashion design and pattern construction.  Once he had the tools to wield his passion, Cody founded Priestess NYC/Shanghai.
