Go Green with Casio's Eco Baby-G

It was 40 years ago that U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson first sought to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment through the founding of Earth Day.  In honor of this momentous occasion, Casio is releasing a new addition to the Baby-G family of watches aptly named the Eco Baby G.  Available in a unique, Earthy green shade with white lettering and a silver aluminum bezel, the Eco Baby G features Casio’s Tough Solar Technology which uses energy from the sun to generate the watches electrical power.  The watch also has a power saving function to conserve battery power when left in the dark for prolonged periods of time and has the ability to judge light levels, to know when to automatically activate the Auto EL Backlight.  Combined, these  innovations dramatically decrease battery consumption associated with traditional watches and virtually eliminate the need for the need for battery changes.  Good thing, too, since dead batteries tend to contain hazardous waste and usually wind up in public landfills.  You’ll be able to get your wrist on these later in the month from either baby-g.com, Macy’s, or a fine streetwear retail near you.

Premium brand PEGLEG NYC just dropped two watches for Casio’s G-Shock line and they’re just the time-tellers you need to usher in Spring. The chunky watches come in two graphic patterns: Rose Floral and Watermelon. Never mind that they may look like something your baby sister might wear. They’re playful and cute!

Make no mistake about it: corporate cartoon characters are nothing like real people.  Whereas you or I would celebrate a birthday by knocking back a few drinks, doing some things we’ll probably regret later, waking up with a wicked hangover the next afternoon and calling it a day, corporate cartoon characters get a multi-year long celebrations in their honor.  Just look at Hello Kitty, who turned 35 last year but here we are in 2010 with yet another HK anniversary themed gadget.  This limited edition 12.1 megapixel Casio EX-Z90 isn’t even the first Casio HK camera to be released for the anniversary, but it is by far the most pink and bling-blingiest.  It boasts the same specs as its non limited edition sibling, including 3X optical zoom, auto-detect and “Intelligent” autofocus, so what you’d really be paying for here is the ability to blind your friends with your devotion to Hello Kitty.  Sadly it’s exclusive to Korea and will cost you $500, but c’mon….Swarovski crystal encrusted Hello Kitty cameras don’t pay for themselves, you know.

What I Want For the Holidays #13

The M.I.S.S. crew has a handful of Sagittariuses the roster, and I’m proud to say that I’m yet another one.  While it rocks to be born under this zodiac sign, the holiday season always outshines my birthday, especially since I’m born just a few days before the gift exchanges.  In the past, I’ve been quite bitter about it (horrid memories of a rainy 7th birthday party with only one guest!), but this year I think I’ll accept the busy schedules and 2-for-1’s and use it as an opportunity to ask for some extra special things that I would feel guilty asking for if I were born at any other time.  I’ve been good this year, and this miss could use something to show for it.

1) Herstyler Baby Curls Grande Clipless Curling Iron: No, this isn’t what it looks like, ok?!  I just got my hair cut, with hopes that a ponytail won’t be my go-to hair style for yet another phase of my life.  Working around food and kids has its upsides but there’s rarely any space for a good hair day.  Hopefully with thing, I’ll want to put on my glove (almost) every morning and blast some MJ as I give my hair some proper attention that will last from the kitchen to the class.  Any brand or style will do, although this three-in-one iron might be a good idea for my two-in-one gift!

2)  Casio Men’s Databank Digital Watch with Illuminator: This is definitely for the nerd in me.  I love this watch so much I need another one in my life again.  Before I lost this watch last spring, I wore it everywhere but the shower.  It accompanied every fit, and came in handy for those pre-iPhone times when I needed to know how much that purse costs after discount, or what time it was during a midnight hike.  The all-black watch will bring it back, but I wouldn’t be mad if a gold one appeared in my stocking.

3)  Tiffany & Co Tiffany Notes Bar Pendant: When I was 16, I thought it might be cool to buy my own domain name.  “Tiffany.com” was available, but I was working at KFC (yikes!) and needed to support my Air Max addition, so I passed up the .com.  Now, I’m kicking myself in the ass with my ’95s, because instead of wishing for this necklace, I would have sold the domain for a lifetime supply of jewelry.  While I’d be happy with any piece of jewelry from the Co., especially one that bears my name, I’d be equally happy with just the box.

4)  Melody Ehsani’s custom nameplate: Don’t get me wrong, I would love to rock this 3 finger chain ring by Melody Ehsani, but what I’m really wanting is a custom nameplate for my neck.  You know, gotta have the classy and sassy.  After reading into this woman, I’ve decided that I need her positivity and strength to be summoned through a piece just for me!  I’d prefer my name, but if you already know what it is from my soon-to-be-mine Tiffany necklace, then surprise me with a nickname or adjective.

5)  O.N.E. Coconut Water subscription: I gotta practice what I preach ya’ll and ask Santa to give the way I live…or how I want to live.  Since I’m in the Bay instead of the tropics, I’m not blessed to have fresh coconut on the daily.  But I can be blessed with the next best thing: a subscription to O.N.E. Coconut Water!  I won’t have to fight mosquitoes or climb a tree, just wait for the delivery guy to bring my goodies straight to my doorstep.  A case will be just fine for me, but a subscription will be even better for my health.

Sanrio wasn’t exactly known for being that selective about what products Hello Kitty’s face got plastered all over, but they’ve really kicked the collaborations into overdrive for her 35th birthday celebration.  Now the company has once again gotten together with Casio, this time to produce a commemorative Baby G adorned with Hello Kitty bows and large Hello Kitty logos on the wrist strap.  The  smaller, more feminine version of Casio’s rugged G-Shock not only sports an uber kawaii makeover, but a ton of technical features as well, including low temperature and shock resistance, water resistance up to 200M, a solar powered rechargeable battery, and the ability to view time from 29 different time zones.  You can get yours in either black or pink at French boutique colette for 330 euros ($493).
