Amanda Lopez Presents: Cali LOVE

AMANDA_LOPEZ_DSC_0017

New work from one of M.I.S.S.’s favorite photographers, Amanda Lopez. The opening reception took place February 13th in Sacramento, California at Upper Playground. Lopez’s work will be up until March 6th, so if you are in the Sacramento area, stop in and check it out.  I’ve been following her work for quite sometime now and I must admit that these new ones are now in my archived favorites.  The makeup is flawless, however, Lopez has captured something so alluring in each shot that I can’t help but stare. When looking at each photo I feel something.  Props girl!

Bio:

Amanda Lopez was born and raised in Sacramento, California under the watchful eye of her parents and paintings of La Virgen de Guadalupe. Her father lent her a camera at the age of 17, and photography soon became her savior. She studied art at San Francisco State University, and continued to shoot around the Bay Area and beyond. Whether she’s photographing Latina homegirls, street musicians in the Mission District or members of her family, Lopez’s camera eye looks for a balance of beauty, strength and urban tenacity. Her work has been published in Vibe, XXL, Mass Appeal, XLR8R, Hamburgereyes and such books as Roger Gastman’s “Street World” and Upper Playground “Backyard Shake Down.” Lopez continues to be influenced by her Latina background and the energy of American cities. She believes La Virgen de Guadalupe has guided her well.

M.I.S.S. Editorial:Office Tramp 2010 "Roses Aren't Red" Capsule Collection

After a one year hiatus, Office Tramp by Gina Valdez returns in 2010 in a big way with the launch of their new capsule collection “Roses Aren’t Red”. Office Tramp offers up a sophisticated four piece collection that maintains the designers’ signature chunky, multi-chain, over-the-top aesthetic. Office Tramp teamed up with M.I.S.S to present the “Roses Aren’t Red” editorial. Shot in San Francisco by Amanda Lopez. Modeled by Alexandra K from Look Models. Hair by Sante Johnson and make up by Jenni Tay. Styling by Liz Baca and produced by Gabriella Davi-Khorasanee.

As the name implies, the collection is designed around vintage-inspired roses featured in four designs: two multi-chain pins, a multi-chain necklace, and a multi-chain bracelet — all offered in an edgy color palette of golds and pewters. These sophisticated, progressive pieces can be dressed up or dressed down; they can be used to soften a power suit or highlight casual wear. From uptown girls to downtown girls, Office Tramp continues its aim to accessorize the woman who isn’t afraid to push the envelope in fashion and life, even when she’s pushing the papers in the office.

Coinciding with the “Roses Aren’t Red” launch, Office Tramp will be launching its new blog and website in the first half of 2010. Look for the “Roses Aren’t Red” collection at select retailers in California and New York City, as well as their very own online shop. Additionally, Office Tramp has teamed up with YANA Handbags to create an exclusive collaboration collection to be released in Fall 2010. This collection will include belt bags and clutches with detachable chains to wear as you see fit.

Make sure to check out M.I.S.S. TV’s Behind the Scenes Office Tramp video.

Married to the Hustle: The Interview

Photo by Nina Parks. Photo Color & Retouch by Lady Lexx

On Valentine’s Day, we dropped the much anticipated “Married to the Hustle? mixtape by EyeASage and today, we bring you the interview with the lady behind the moniker, EyeASage—Ms. Krishtine de Leon (many apologies for the delay!)! Now, don’t let the length of this interview scare you, this lady has a lot of important knowledge to share and you’re going to want to read about it. Also, check the handwritten survey at the end of the interview. Let’s get on it!

M.I.S.S. Crew: Ok, let’s start off with where the name “EyeASage? came from?

EyeASage: EyeSage started off as—you know how Eminem’s name is M and M for Marshall Mathers? Well, “EyeSage? started when I got into college. My friends use to call me Ish and so it was I-S-H, or “I A Sage?. Sage is like a learned and respected name. So it’s like a double entendre. It basically means, “I am a wise and respected person.?

M.I.S.S. Crew: Your target audience—who are they and is there an overall message you want to deliver to them?

EyeASage: I would say my target audience is young women, you know, but I want my message to be for everyone. I’m sure that young women would be able to relate. I think there’s a lack of presence of young women in music and in Hip Hop, especially now. Coming from an era where there were just as many female rappers as there were male rappers, you wouldn’t have to say, “She’s a female emcee.? You would just say, “She’s an emcee.? And coming from that to now, where there are only a handful of female rappers and they’re hyper sexualized. Misogyny in hip-hop is so rampant that it’s almost not welcoming. I address that in my song, “Find Me? and I think that my target audience is basically, anyone who’s willing to see a balance restored in Hip Hop and I think that people are hungry for it—so, anyone who’s willing to listen, really.
