Alex & Chloe, a Los Angeles based brand best known for their edgy jewelry and fun eye wear, got together with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) to show their support for LGBT equality and celebrate the universal power of love. The result? Three limited edition pieces featuring a graffiti heart. The pieces include a tee, hoody, and necklace.

The tee and hoody are both custom dyed, hand painted and specially treated for softness, which means each piece produced vary slightly in appearance. The necklace is fashioned from Alex & Chloe’s usual acrylic material, which is laser-cut into the graffiti heart pendant and hung from an antique brass chain. All pieces feature the HRC equal sign logo.

For those unaware of the HRC, you should be! The HRC is “America’s largest human rights campaign working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality” through educational outreach, media outreach and their own publications. The HRC has worked with other brands and designers such as Marc Jacobs, Heatherette, Kenneth Cole and American Apparel to create apparel and accessories that help spread the word about LGBT equality.

M.I.S.S. was invited to check out the grand opening party of No. A Friday night, a boutique in the Little Tokyo district of L.A. that caters to men and women in search of a little international panache or just some good old domestic flair. Among co-owners Alana and Nate’s friends were curious shoppers filing in to enjoy a live DJ, complimentary drinks and ice cream sandwiches, and goodie bags, which included shirts from No. A’s own line.

The clutter-free boutique’s interior would never suggest the location was once home to an American Apparel. Hand-painted trees span the walls, complemented by colorful bursts from the scarce but beautifully detailed flowers and birds. Clothes and hats are displayed on vintage furnishings, which range from wagon-esque tables to wrought iron stands. The store’s collection includes international lines exclusive to No. A, including Swedish men’s clothing and music brand Uniforms for the Dedicated and Australia’s self-describedly unconventional My Pet Square. No. A is also home to a wide range of US brands, such as DimePiece, MadeMe, and CTRL, and accessories by the likes of Han Cholo, Alex & Chloe, and Cubannie Links.

Be sure to check out No. A if ever in downtown Los Angeles – with such an extensive and hard-to-find selection, there’s a good chance you won’t run into an outfit twin on the streets.

The Chanel logo is nothing short of iconic, so it’s natural that the emblem inspires other designers. LA-based designer Brian Lichtenberg gives the trademark a street-friendly twist, fusing his own initials and taste into slouchy tops emblazoned with Lichtenberg’s take on the classic logo.

The latest drop from Brian Lichtenberg is the “Brianel” tank, available for both men and women. As seen on Santigold already, the unisex tank is available in white, black, and gray and retails for $78. In keeping with the Chanel-inspired theme, the design on the gray and black tanks features a twist on the design shown on Chanel’s classic fragrance Chanel No. 5, coupled with Lichtenberg’s interlocking “B” design. Just as sleek is the white version – simplicity at its finest.

Last month we got a quick look at the upcoming Alex & Chloe t-shirt line “Forever and Never” that will be hitting stores in May. At a time when we’re overloaded with loud graphic tees, it’s nice to be able to have something a little cleaner and more grown-up when needed! Minimalism at its finest, the tees feature the trademark geometric patterns and shapes we’ve come to know the label for, with a muted palette of black, white, dark violet and navy – renamed black smoke, white smoke, purple dusk, and galaxy blue.

A standout piece for me is the “Laced” tee in white smoke – a collabo with Brian Lichtenberg. I know I said I was a bit over the whole loud print thing, but we can make an exception here right? The Laced tee has an all-over print made up of a bunch of different patterns – does sound a little bizarre, but at the hands of Mr Lichtenberg, it works.

“Forever and Never” doesn’t drop until May, but till then feast your eyes on the eerily beautiful “Tar” collection of necklaces and bracelets – “beautiful and odd objects found in the depths of the earth and sea, blackened in ‘tar’.”  By “beautiful and odd objects” we’re talking brass keys, cone shells, and a kinda creepy rabbit foot made to look like they’re well, coated in tar! Hung from antique adjustable brass chain, each piece is unique, varying in size, shape, and texture.  Jewelery that can work either as a subtle addition to any outfit or worn as a statement piece – and with the majority of pieces around the $65 mark, why are you still reading this?
