It seems like there’s no better way to promote a product than to get a famous pretty face behind it. In the latest on starlet x fashion news, Tod’s announced that Gwyneth Paltrow is featured in the Fall 09 Ad campaign. Tod’s also got Dennis Hopper on board to write and direct a 4 minute “film” (read: commercial) for the Pashmy bag - the bag in the ads with Sienna Miller a few seasons ago. The short premiered at Cannes, but you can view the behind the scenes teaser on the Tod’s site here. The print ads were shot in Capri by Mario Testio - can’t wait to see what those come out like!

On A Side Note: Gwyneth is matched with Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man, which I saw a few weekends back. The movie was fun and entertaining but the best part was Robert Downey Jr, who is sexy as ever. He was on GQ’s May cover while co-star GP was Vogue’s May cover girl.

Although the fashion industry as a whole has been pathetically slow in taking action aganist the lack of diversity on the runways, leave it to Briatin’s original punk-princess to be the first to mix things up a little bit.
Last season, Vivienne Westwood told the Telegraph that magazine editors were “racist for ignoring black models and that the fashion edrixes “should be ‘forced’ to use a certain proportion of black models even if it hit their circulation.
She also went on to say “They have to be prepared to take a drop every now and again and then people would get used to it and think, ‘I should buy this magazine because there is a beautiful black girl on it’.
It sounded great (music to my ears), but by the time Westwood’s spring presentation rolled around not five, four, three, or two, but one token black model appeared on her runway. In fact, it was the African stunner Ajuma.
But as is usual with the legendary dame, there was some method behind her madness:
She wanted the one black model in her show to nab the campaign. This is what I like to call a “statement.
And a staement she has made in the Juergan Teller lensed ad pictured above. Ajuma looks like a fierce Grace Jones with a fade and machine gun. And Vivienne looks pretty wicked too.
Snaps all around.
