Love this lady. Perhaps one of my favorite people, which would make sense as I met her through some of my other favorite people…my girls roll deep and in the most excellent of company, TRUST. And when you roll with such style and grace, please believe that the pool of creativity runs deep. You’ll remember Kerin Rose from our Women’s Making History interview series this past March. Piece by piece this lady creates everything by hand, atttention to detail and quality craftswomanship have gotten her noticed by the likes of Katy Perry and Cassie and others who I can not mention at this time (but know they are real, real good!!!). On my recent trip to NYC I had the chance to hang with my lady at her HQ, her home, the place it all happens. We did our girl thang: ate waffles and burgers followed by cake, talked about men NOT BOYS, squealed over vintage hooker heels, toured her home/workspace and of course checked out the “new new” from A-Morir.

Where the magic happens: A-Morir's work station.

Kerin could probably glue anything to a pair of sunglasses, I’m really starting to believe that. From heavy chain on her Love/Hate Convertible Chain Sunglasses, as worn by Cassie, Jazmine Sullivan and MTV’s Erin Lucas to killer studs on the most vicious and fierce frames ever (Lady Gaga you kinda NEED THESE), the lady Rose is making a life of what she loves, one Swarovski crystal at a time (only the finest). Her world famous Schubert Heart Shaped Sunglasses, as worn by Katy Perry, are being jeweled up in orange and a lighter shade of pink these days. AND she’s adding fancy fringed arm adornments to her offerings too…so MAJOR.

A-Morir's latest addition...her "MAJOR" fringed fingerless opera gloves.

Stay posted, Kerin Rose is on the up and up and one to watch…TRUST that.

M.I.S.S. Paper Dolls: Week 6

Paper Dolls kicks off this week in memorium and runs through our consciousness until it can’t stop ’til we get enough.
Never Can Say Goodbye

Although not amongst us, MJ’s music, moves, and swag will live on within us. An ode to Mister Jackson, this is for the night lovers down to rock beats and break necks.

A tribute to the man who defined what it meant to be an entertainer. His innovative spirit, style, and persona will live on in our memories forever. RIP Michael Jackson.

Raya Jewelry: Welcoming Color Back Into Your Jewelry Box

Raya Jewelry

Raya Jewelry

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but isn’t that a bit unfair to all of the precious gems out there? If you share this sentiment, M.I.S.S. is here to save the day. Raya jewelry, named for its Thailand-born founder and designer, has recently launched its first collection, consisting of white sapphires, south sea pearls, and precious gems.

Raya Jewelry

Raya Jewelry

Prior to the design and creation of her own jewelry line, Raya was no stranger to working in accessories. In Thailand, her family owned the Viva Gems company. Raya herself then studied jewelry design at GIA in Bangkok and the College of Communication in London. When creating her pieces, Raya drew on her travels and multi-cultural experiences as inspiration. At the risk of looking tacky with such large gems and over-the-top styles, Raya manages to keep each piece classy, never gaudy - a line that can be tricky to toe without crossing.

From the looks of the gold-encrusted collection, it’s clear that Raya is determined to make a name for herself. From the unabashedly blinged-out cocktail rings to drop-pendant necklaces and earrings, each piece is as invigorating as it is one-of-a-kind. For too long the public have been enthralled with homogeneous silver pieces - bracelets and necklaces that all look exactly the same. Let Raya allow you to break the mold and reintroduce color back into your jewelry collection. Take note, though, that Raya Jewelry aren’t costume pieces. They’re investments, created to last lifetimes for your future generations to inherit.

It’s impossible to select one standout piece from Raya’s collection. Each intricately crafted accessory is fabulous in its own way - think of it as traditional jewelry with a worldly twist and injection of color. Raya’s double-stranded necklaces are a welcomed departure from traditional neckwear, but one that’s not too far removed to be dubbed trendy costume jewelry. Colorful drop-pendant necklaces utilize precious gems, drawing any onlooker’s attention to your collarbone (oo la la!). Raya’s bracelets are a sight for sore eyes, whether it’s a honeycomb diamond-plaited bangle (available in a variety of colors) or a cutout cuff. When it comes to earrings, Raya adds her personal flare to the accessory. You’ll be able to find heart-shaped pendant earrings lined in pink gemstones, or hoop earrings complete with diamond-surrounded drop-downs.

Raya Jewelry

Each Raya piece commands adoration and attention, so if you’re shy just beware that donning any accessory from Raya’s collection is a surefire way to signal to onlookers that you’re outgoing (or trying to be)! With the amount of pieces Raya’s churned out for her first collection, there’s no doubt this woman’s a hard worker who’s sure to be around for years to come.

Cuckoo for Coco: Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2009 Paris-Moscou

Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2009 Paris-Moscou

Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2009 Paris-Moscou

A few months back we showed you the indulgent Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2009 Paris-Moscou collection and the coordinating Paris-Moscou nail colours, and now we dug up some more photos of the collection to share with you.  If you know me, you know that I love all things Chanel, but this collection is one of the best I’ve seen.

Karl Lagerfeld is a master and staying true to the roots of the house of Chanel, while also injecting youth, fun an creativity into everything he does.  I love that he really digs deep into the inspiration behind a line, researches all of the nuances, and translates them into elaborate, whimsical clothing and accessories.

The Paris-Moscou theme stems from Chanel’s connections to exiled Russian royalty and her relationships with them influenced some of her collections.  I’m not sure if the timing of this collection was intentional, but this year also marks the release of a film detailing the love affair Mlle. Chanel had with another famous Russian, Igor Stravinsky.  Coincidence, or not, the Paris-Moscou collection has a fairytale quality to it - they seem the perfect pieces for a young czarina.

B-Side “Rights” Preview

B SIDE Preview

B SIDE's new collection entitled "Rights"!

M.I.S.S previously brought you the scoop on B-side, the line of hand-crafted graffiti inspired and geometric jewelery taking the blogosphere and boutiques alike by storm. So imagine how delighted we were when we got the chance to preview their new collection, entitled “Rights”!

B SIDE Preview

The bangles, rings, necklaces, and earrings in the collection all feature the Supreme Court case numbers.

“Rights” is a conceptual collection, aimed at spotlighting the difficulties that marginalized minority groups face. Designers Dana Chin and Ken Leung came up with the brilliant idea to base the pieces around four pivotal Supreme Court cases: Romer v. Evans (protects against discrimination by sexual orientation), Leser v. Garnett (upholds women’s right to vote), Brown v. Board of Education (desegregates schools), and Loving v. Virginia (legalizes interracial marriage). The bangles, rings, necklaces, and earrings all feature the Supreme Court case numbers, which have been either etched or stenciled onto brass and enamel to create a look that stays true to B-side’s funky, street-based aesthetic.

B SIDE Preview

Scarves from India combined with the graphic cubes.

Stand out pieces were the bronzed bangles, which much like their previous work features graffiti designs, but now layered over and beneath the bold case numbers. Similarly, the subtly crafted rings played off of B-Side’s trademark sculptural style, resulting in an innovative overlapping bar ring with the vital case numbers etched into the silver.

B SIDE Preview

The 18" necklace features case numbers etched onto a silver panel.

Another stunner piece was the 18″ necklace, which featured the case numbers etched onto a silver panel, which was then mounted onto a black base. Geometric brass cubes and a small chunk of authentic stones (amethyst and quartz are just some of the raw materials used) also hung off the thin silver chain– this necklace will definitely be a crowd pleasing part of your collection.

B-Side was also generous enough to give us the exlusive preview of some as-of-yet unfinished designs, and they are dope!  The designing duo imported printed scarves from India and combined the silken fabrics with the graphic cube work from their previous lines. The result is a unique piece with a choose-your-own-adventure concept– it can be worn as a scarf, tied as a shorter necklace, or laced up around your wrist as a wrapped bracelet. The options are endless, and appreciated in this recession!

B-Side’s “Rights” collection is socially consciously beyond just the visual aspect– a portion of all proceeds will go the Harlem Childrens’ Zone, which Dana and Ken are also working in conjunction with to assist with arts’ education. Cost worthy, socially reponsible, and most of all perfectly stylish, keep an eye open for B-Side’s latest on their online store. Expect pieces to drop later this month!

Lena Bergström: Crystal Handbags

'Kristina' handbag by Lena Bergström, Made with Orrefors, 2009

'Kristina' handbag by Lena Bergström, Made with Orrefors, 2009

Award-winning Swedish designer Lena Bergström (known for her glass and textile design work) has created a limited (read: only 5 in each edition!) collection of handbags made with stainless steel and yes, solid crystal. Bling! Designboom, a design addict’s paradise, featured the bags in their latest daily coverage post, and we are loving the accessories-as-art-piece idea that Bergström is engaging. To coincide with this, the bags were on display at Vessel Gallery in London. Bergström has had work in multiple solo exhibitions worldwide as well. In keeping with Bergström’s signature style, the bags utilize clean lines and create a  minimalist yet striking aesthetic, most notably in the “Siv” model. Mmm hmm, these crystal clutches are super hot!
