Baptiste Viry Fall ‘09

Baptiste Viry Fall 09

Baptiste Viry Fall 09

French designer Baptiste Viry has released the look book for this Fall 09 collection and we love it!

Known for his design prowess, waistcoats and accessories, the new collection is nothing short of spectacular.
The women’s waistcoats differ from your normal waistcoat, with each structured with a strong geometric influence, combining the colours navy and tan with plaid accents on most of the pieces. The detailing on each piece is vastly different including gold buttons, buckles, fasteners and pockets.

Gold and leather make up the Fall 09 accessories collection, with buckles again taking centre stage in most pieces. A charming leather strap necklace adorned with a bow tie fastened to the middle of the piece was the first thing I noticed - I predict it may be one of the best sellers of the collection.  Necklaces, cuffs and bracelets reminiscent of leather belts are my favourites of the collection, with a necklace made of a gold chain and leather strap combo quickly winning first place in my heart.

Keep your eye on the Baptiste Viry website for more information on when this collection hits the stores.

Sneaks and Peeks from A-Morir by Kerin Rose

Love this lady. Perhaps one of my favorite people, which would make sense as I met her through some of my other favorite people…my girls roll deep and in the most excellent of company, TRUST. And when you roll with such style and grace, please believe that the pool of creativity runs deep. You’ll remember Kerin Rose from our Women’s Making History interview series this past March. Piece by piece this lady creates everything by hand, atttention to detail and quality craftswomanship have gotten her noticed by the likes of Katy Perry and Cassie and others who I can not mention at this time (but know they are real, real good!!!). On my recent trip to NYC I had the chance to hang with my lady at her HQ, her home, the place it all happens. We did our girl thang: ate waffles and burgers followed by cake, talked about men NOT BOYS, squealed over vintage hooker heels, toured her home/workspace and of course checked out the “new new” from A-Morir.

Where the magic happens: A-Morir's work station.

Kerin could probably glue anything to a pair of sunglasses, I’m really starting to believe that. From heavy chain on her Love/Hate Convertible Chain Sunglasses, as worn by Cassie, Jazmine Sullivan and MTV’s Erin Lucas to killer studs on the most vicious and fierce frames ever (Lady Gaga you kinda NEED THESE), the lady Rose is making a life of what she loves, one Swarovski crystal at a time (only the finest). Her world famous Schubert Heart Shaped Sunglasses, as worn by Katy Perry, are being jeweled up in orange and a lighter shade of pink these days. AND she’s adding fancy fringed arm adornments to her offerings too…so MAJOR.

A-Morir's latest addition...her "MAJOR" fringed fingerless opera gloves.

Stay posted, Kerin Rose is on the up and up and one to watch…TRUST that.

M.I.S.S. Paper Dolls: Week 6

Paper Dolls kicks off this week in memorium and runs through our consciousness until it can’t stop ’til we get enough.
Never Can Say Goodbye

Although not amongst us, MJ’s music, moves, and swag will live on within us. An ode to Mister Jackson, this is for the night lovers down to rock beats and break necks.

- Leilanie

A tribute to the man who defined what it meant to be an entertainer. His innovative spirit, style, and persona will live on in our memories forever. RIP Michael Jackson.

I found a photo of Rihanna in this Christopher Kane dress that I absolutely adored and imagined what I’d wear with it.
80’s Purple is my favorite online store to find accessories, which I pulled a lot of these from.

I’m loving the harem pants and jumpsuits this season. Trend or no trend, they’re hot! They’re perfect for daytime, and in this case, they’re sure to stand out in the night!

Ears to the Street: S.uper S.exy S.urfer S.tyle. Bring the Surf to your Turf.

S.uper S.exy S.urfer S.tyle

S.uper S.exy S.urfer S.tyle

When I was about 8 years-old I wandered into the local skate/surf shop. I instantly spied Mr. Zog’s Sex Wax and curious as I was I asked what it was for. The shop worker smiled and replied “It’s for your stick”. O.M.G. you can only imagine the confusion in my little mind.

So, I never took up surfing but since the day’s of Jimmy’Z denim and neoprene fashions, we’ve always had a hankering for the fashions of wave riders. The body con silhouettes, bold color-blocking, heavy duty hard-ware and stitch details of a surfers uniform lend perfect details for everyday wear. This Summer be bold with pieces taking influence from those that hang-10 and you’ll be hanging tough clad in a neoprene dream. Whether you get inspired by actual surfer’s garb…why not rock a rash guard with a mini and heels?  Or go the design inspired route with ankle booties from Pierre Hardy, you’ll be happy to try something new. If your coordination is best left to surfing the “www” and not the open seas, you’re in luck this season because you can dress the part of a Big Kahuna without the fear of a wipe out.

New A(r)mor website

You might recall A(r)mor Jewelry from a M.I.S.S. post way back in the beginning of June, where we featured each of A(r)mor’s delicately crafted creations. (If you don’t remember, check out the original story!) M.I.S.S. has been hot on A(r)mor’s trail since then, and we wanted to give you an update on the brand. A(r)mor has recently launched a new Web site, where you can browse all the A(r)mor pieces and shop online.  The new site features A(r)mor’s look book as well, which gives you a little taste of how you can adorn an outfit with your A(r)mor garb. The look book beautifully illustrates the versatility of each piece - wear your A(r)mor with your favorite comfy tee or dress up a chic button-down for a night on the town. (Especially helpful for anyone who’s unsure of how to rock such a unique accessory!) And remember, each A(r)mor piece is created from vintage materials and made-to-order - your A(r)mor jewelry is literally made just for you!

M.I.S.S. Was There! Claw Money Pop-Up Shop @ Fred Segal Flair

Review of Claw Money Pop-Up Shop @ Fred Segal Flair

Review of Claw Money Pop-Up Shop @ Fred Segal Flair

Claw Money is taking over the world! Well, not yet…but last night Claw Money did take over Fred Segal Flair in Santa Monica setting up her Pop Up Shop for the launch of her new limited edition denim tote.

Fred Segal and Claw did a great job of merchandising the shop and giving it a true Claw Money makeover. The Pop Up shop was filled with Claw’s SS09 collection of tees, jewelry, accessories, signature vintage bomber jackets, eyewear, book and of course denim totes. Spray cans and Claw pillows adorned the shelves and finishing off the look of the shop is Claw’s graffitti piece on the back wall of what else, her signature claw. Guests sipped on cocktails by Belvedre Vodka and M&Ms as they shopped the racks that were full of Claw Money hotness!

So if you’re in LA, the LBC, or even the OC, don’t sleep on Claw Money’s goods being here on the West Coast! The Pop Up Shop runs thru July 9th. Remeber Fred Segal Flair Santa Monica is just up the street from the famous Santa Monica boardwalk; you can pick up a new tee and tote, take a ride on the ferris wheel, then go home a happy camper : )

Sunny weather makes me hot, but I keep it cool with a water bottle and my Pali sandals. Stay hydrated!

Raya Jewelry: Welcoming Color Back Into Your Jewelry Box

Raya Jewelry

Raya Jewelry

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but isn’t that a bit unfair to all of the precious gems out there? If you share this sentiment, M.I.S.S. is here to save the day. Raya jewelry, named for its Thailand-born founder and designer, has recently launched its first collection, consisting of white sapphires, south sea pearls, and precious gems.

Raya Jewelry

Raya Jewelry

Prior to the design and creation of her own jewelry line, Raya was no stranger to working in accessories. In Thailand, her family owned the Viva Gems company. Raya herself then studied jewelry design at GIA in Bangkok and the College of Communication in London. When creating her pieces, Raya drew on her travels and multi-cultural experiences as inspiration. At the risk of looking tacky with such large gems and over-the-top styles, Raya manages to keep each piece classy, never gaudy - a line that can be tricky to toe without crossing.

From the looks of the gold-encrusted collection, it’s clear that Raya is determined to make a name for herself. From the unabashedly blinged-out cocktail rings to drop-pendant necklaces and earrings, each piece is as invigorating as it is one-of-a-kind. For too long the public have been enthralled with homogeneous silver pieces - bracelets and necklaces that all look exactly the same. Let Raya allow you to break the mold and reintroduce color back into your jewelry collection. Take note, though, that Raya Jewelry aren’t costume pieces. They’re investments, created to last lifetimes for your future generations to inherit.

It’s impossible to select one standout piece from Raya’s collection. Each intricately crafted accessory is fabulous in its own way - think of it as traditional jewelry with a worldly twist and injection of color. Raya’s double-stranded necklaces are a welcomed departure from traditional neckwear, but one that’s not too far removed to be dubbed trendy costume jewelry. Colorful drop-pendant necklaces utilize precious gems, drawing any onlooker’s attention to your collarbone (oo la la!). Raya’s bracelets are a sight for sore eyes, whether it’s a honeycomb diamond-plaited bangle (available in a variety of colors) or a cutout cuff. When it comes to earrings, Raya adds her personal flare to the accessory. You’ll be able to find heart-shaped pendant earrings lined in pink gemstones, or hoop earrings complete with diamond-surrounded drop-downs.

Raya Jewelry

Raya Jewelry

Each Raya piece commands adoration and attention, so if you’re shy just beware that donning any accessory from Raya’s collection is a surefire way to signal to onlookers that you’re outgoing (or trying to be)! With the amount of pieces Raya’s churned out for her first collection, there’s no doubt this woman’s a hard worker who’s sure to be around for years to come.

Back By Popular Demand: This Bud’s for You. Budweiser Beer Gear Past & Present.

The Budweiser collection from Supreme NYC.

The Budweiser collection from Supreme NYC.

Beer drinkers unite! I guess. Or maybe those of you that are nostalgic for Grandpa’s beer can hat or those funny shorts your uncle used to wear for the Fourth of July BBQ…they were red, white and blue after-all. NYC’s Supreme team recently dropped a collection of Budweiser apparel that is straight back to the future. Back in the 60’s and 70’s there were many clothing products made by different companies from Anheuser-Busch’s Budweiser logo. Fabric was even made available to the retail market, so if you couldn’t find what you wanted you could sew it up yourself…perhaps you wanted to cover your whole living room set. Now that’s serious. Of course there was (and still is thanks to the BeerCanHatLady on eBay) the oh-so-memorable beer can hat. Even my own Grandma used to crochet these bad boys up. Speaking of which, it seems to me that some sort of Bud beer can head gear is clearly missing from the Supreme collection…hmmmm. Although Supreme is a dude’s brand, a “lady” can rock most of these beer gear items and call them her own. Yes, I used Lady and “beer gear” in the same sentence. Just go with me on this one.
