This week I wanted to spot light a few beauty looks I am loving for Spring/Summer 2014. Fashion week was pretty exciting but at the same time frustrating; just as I started easing into my sultry berry wine lips, I am now a little excited to show off dewy skin with just a hint of bronzer, gloss and eye liner.
What’s a beauty addict to do?
NARS created the look for the Alexander Wang SS’14 runway show.
SHOW: Alexander Wang SS’14
LEAD ARTIST: Diane Kendal for NARS Cosmetics
LOOK: “This is raw beauty – a simple freshness, focusing on skincare, curled lashes, and a groomed brow.”
I love this look because I cannot leave the house without eye brows etched into my face. If my skin were naturally radiant and clear like these girls, I’d walk out the house like this daily. I’d also have a less product clutter in my bathroom and not much to write about. I’ll have to rethink this.
NARS created the look for the Rodarte SS’14 runway show.
SHOW: Rodarte SS’14
LEAD ARTIST: James Kaliardos for NARS Cosmetics
LOOK: Rodarte’s SS’14 makeup inspiration evolved from Los Angeles and its sleek and minimal lines. The eye makeup is precise and striking, accenting the graphic lines of their collection.
This one I’m feeling too because I’m always a sucker for crisp eye liner and nude lips. It’s a quiet glamorous look. Skin is radiant and there’s just a delicate hint of sculpted cheekbones.
Carmen Marc Valvo
NARS created the look for the Carmen Marc Valvo SS’14 runway show.
SHOW: Carmen Marc Valvo SS’14
LEAD ARTIST: Uzo for NARS Cosmetics
LOOK: “With its fresh spin on tribal motifs combined with luxe fabrics and intricate embellishments, the collection called for clean and polished makeup with a bit of playfulness. We added a hint of platinum shimmer and a strong, graphic black eyeliner. Keeping the look modern and updated, a nude lip complemented the athletic playfulness in the collection.”
DESIGNER INSPIRATION: “The inspiration for this season is a kind of Tribal Techno. It’s taking tribal patterns and treating them in a monochromatic form: black, white, silver. Bringing them out of their element and making them a little bit more graphic, a little bit more computer generated.”
The inspiration here is futuristic tribal but honestly it’s pure 80’s Terri Nunn from the group, Berlin. Have no idea who I’m talking about, please Google her or ask your mom’s super cool younger sister.
NARS created the look for the Helmut Lang SS’14 runway show.
SHOW: Helmut Lang SS’14
LEAD ARTIST: Hannah Murray for NARS Cosmetics
LOOK: “This look is an elevated version of the typical Helmut Lang girl. The skin is very fresh, flushed and sporty, with a cherry lip.”
Fresh, pretty and innocent – this is they way I hope my daughter will wear her makeup when she’s in high school and not like some sad goth girl like I did my Freshman year.
NARS created the look for the Naeem Khan SS ‘14 runway show.
SHOW: Naeem Khan SS ‘14
LEAD ARTIST: James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry
LOOK: “The starting point of the inspiration was Frida Kahlo, but we didn’t want the makeup to be a literal interpretation. Instead, eyes are softly defined yet translucent; the lips are the focal point with a faded and diffused berry shade, complementing the collection.”
NARS created the look for the 3.1 Phillip Lim SS’14 runway show.
SHOW: 3.1 Phillip Lim SS’14
LEAD ARTIST: Francelle Daly for NARS Cosmetics
LOOK: “This season, Phillip created sunglasses with a hologram effect and I wanted to recreate the same iridescent texture – paired with translucent skin, it’s very ethereal. It’s a healthy glow in a futuristic way – like a ‘future perfect’ day at the beach.”
LEAD MANICURIST: Elisa Ferri for NARS Cosmetics

Can’t go wrong with the easy look of clear, bright eyes and bright, fresh skin to match. You’ll need deep exfoliation, regular facials and visine to really assist the cosmetics for this look. The simplicity is just so pretty to look at.
As you can see the focus here is radiant skin. I didn’t really see any heavily bronzed cheekbones. It’s soft and subtle just like Spring.
Okay, now I just have to get through Halloween, Thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday season before I can even think about these looks. I better get my skincare down now!
