Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit. Apple released not one, but two new iPhone’s this year.
First up is the iPhone 5c. It features a new, colorful, polycarbonate design that’s reinforced with a steel structure and the same 4-inch Retina display of its predecessor. There’s also an 8 megapixel, backside-illuminated camera with a 5-element lens, and a new front-facing camera that’s supposed to be better at capturing images under low light. Under the phone’s new candy colored exterior lays an A6 processor, dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, LTE, and, perhaps most important of all, a higher capacity battery. The last thing you want to have to do is carry a charger with your 24/7 just to feed your texting and Angry Bird addictions.
The iPhone 5c comes in blue, white, pink, yellow, and green for $99 on a two-year contract for the 16GB version, or $199 for the 32GB.
Remember how Apple dropped two phone’s this year? The other would be the iPhone 5s, the true successor to the iPhone 5. Like other iPhone’s bearing the “s” name, the 5s is an evolutionary leap over the phone that came before it. It uses the same two-tone design and 4-inch Retina display as the 5, but the old home button has been replaced by a new one that can read your fingerprints. This new feature is known as “Touch ID”, and it adds a new layer of security by removing the use of easily figured out passcodes. Also seeing an upgrade is the rear camera. It’s still 8 megapixels like the one on the original 5, but now it has a dual LED flash (one white, one amber) that makes low light pictures appear more natural, a larger f/2.2 aperture, and a 15 percent larger sensor. Powering the iPhone 5s is Apple’s new A7 64-bit chip, the first 64-bit chip ever in a smartphone. It makes the phone two times faster than the iPhone 5. Graphics will see a boost due to the use of OpenGL ES 3.0, and a new motion coprocessor called the M7 will continuously monitor motion data to enable a new generation of health and fitness apps (like Nike+Move). Also new to the iPhone 5s: gold. In addition to black and white, you can now get an iPhone that would make 2000 Lil Wayne and the Cash Money crew jealous.
The 16GB iPhone 5S costs $199, while the 32GB version is $299 and the 64GB version is $399, all with a new two-year contract.
