NARS Satin Lip Pencil and New San Franciso Boutique

Just in time for Spring and Summer getaways, Nars has rolled out a great new lip product that’s convenient to apply and carry – the satin lip pencil. The good folks at NARS were kind enough to send to pencils two me to try out and review.

This jumbo looking crayon is packed with crazy moisture. Don’t let that fool you – this does not apply sheer, it packs a pigmented punch. With 13 colors to choose from, you’ll be hard pressed to not find a color for you. If anything, you’ll end up buying more than just one. I love the portability of this product but do keep in mind that this is a pencil, you’ll need to either pack a sharpener that’s big enough to accommodate it’s size or do what I usually do with all my liners and lip pencils – sharpen it at home before packing into your makeup pouch.

So what colors did I try out?  Golshan, a rusty spiced wine and Isola Bella, a warm peachy nude beige.

Here’s a swatch on my arm:

This is from just one swipe – it’s a pretty opaque color.

Golshan:

Isola Bella:

I’m pretty impressed with these pencils – they go on with easy slip and when the color sets my lips are comfortable. The color fades into a nice stain that didn’t settle into the cracks on my lips. I got about four hours of wear before I felt the need to apply again. Golshan stayed on pretty well even while chowing down a lunchtime sandwich. I really didn’t have to apply this shade more than three times when worn at a full day at the office.

Isola Bella was a different story, since it’s a lighter color I felt that I had to apply this one more and doing so, my lips felt dry by the end of the day and I had some peeling the next morning after. Also, I felt that I needed a gloss to accompany this shade whereas, I felt comfortable wearing Golshan on it’s own. These pencils are also fragrance-free.

So how does this compare to the Velvet Matte Lip pencils? Honestly, I can’t choose which I like better even if you paid me. Both pencils are really comfortable on my lips. The only difference is in the finish and your mood. If you want a soft matte finish then go with the Velvet Matte and if you want soft shine then go with the Satin. Both look great solo or topped with gloss and takes less space in your makeup case so you can also tote around a sharpener if needed.

The NARS Satin Lip Pencil retails for $25/USD.

Now available at narscosmetics.com and department stores that features the NARS brand.

Also in NARS News – a new boutique in San Francisco, CA! This Bay Area girl is super excited to check this space out.

It features the classic NARS design aesthetic – 700 square feet showcasing clean lines, modern design with walls and fixtures in stark white with black accents. Boutique cash wrap in a red high-gloss lacquer which is the same color as the iconic lipstick shade, Jungle Red. You can watch the LCD screens embedded in a seamless mirror rotating short films created by Nars or you can get your makeup done at one of four permanent makeup stations by an artist trained by Nars himself. I am also excited knowing that I have easy access to NARS boutique exclusives like the 413 Bleeker collection.

I better start saving up now, something tells me there are going to be some awesome events and appearances in this boutique soon!
