Last year we lost the hairstyling legend Vidal Sassoon but his legacy of revolutionary hair styles and hair care live on with the recent launch of the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series. The Vidal Sassoon Pro Series offers an array of products that can help you add the finishing touch to your look with products in several categories including Moisturizing, Smoothing, Repairing, Volumizing, Color Protection and Styling. The products are salon quality and affordable with products ranging in price from $2.49 to $8.99 – what a steal! Remember, this is the brand that said “if you don’t look good we don’t look good” so we know they take their products seriously. Fifty-years ago Vidal Sassoon democratized fabulous hair with the creation of “the Bob” and “the Five-Point Cut” and now his namesake company continues to bring gorgeous hair to the masses with the new Vidal Sassoon Pro Series line.
Vidal Sassoon asked me for some tips on how to transition a look from day-to-night. At some point or another we’ve all had to meet some friends or someone special for drinks or dinner after work and finding the balance of what’s work appropriate and a fun going-out outfit can be difficult sometimes. While changing your hair style is the easiest and most striking way to change up your look, since this is the kind of fashion dilemma we all find ourselves in regularly, I’ve added a few other pointers below so you can take all the thinking out of it and just concentrate on having fun.
1. Layer It On
One of the easiest ways to take an outfit from day to night is through layering by either adding or removing a layer. For example, if you’re wearing a shift dress with a blazer to work, remove your blazer to jazz up your outfit to meet the girls. You can wear the dress without another layer or you could add a more festive top layer like a sequined jacket or cardingan.
My favorite way to transform a look is with accessories. Swap your sensible work shoes for higher, less work-appropriate heels and ditch the huge carry-all work bag for a smaller evening bag that only holds the necessities (lipstick, phone, credit card and ID). Have fun with jewelry too! Add the arm candy, swap the earrings for something more sparkly and add a statement necklace.
3. Make it Bold
When you’re at work you want to make sure that your makeup is understated but when you go out you want to add a little va-va-voom to your look and the easiest way to do that is with some lipstick. If you wear a sheer or lighter color for day, for your night out with your man switch the gloss for your bold lipstick of choice.
4. Don’t Forget the Nose
Fragrance can be distracting at work especially if you work in close quarters with a lot of other individuals. If that’s the case, you should probably take it easy with the fragrance. But once the work day is over and you’re heading out to the club, don’t forget to spritz your favorite scent. You can’t see it, but a look is never complete without some perfume.
5. Crowning Glory
The last – and the most striking – way to transform your look is with your luxurious mane. Whether you have long hair and can go from an up-do to flowing locks (or vice versa), or you have a pixie cut and you wear your hair to the side at work and slick it back for happy hour, there is always something you can do with your locks to switch up your look if you have the right hair products.
To achieve the look above I first had to blow out my naturally curly hair. I applied the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extreme Smooth Combing Crème, Mega Firm Hold Gel and the Heat Protect and Shine Spray to my wet hair before blowing out my hair. To transition my look for night, I put my hair in a bun and to maintain the bun without fly-aways I used the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray to keep every hair in place.
No look would be complete without your “crowning glory” so be sure to pull your look together by fixing your hair a little for that confident, finished look.
