Update Your Holiday Look with Jane Iredale

Recently, I was fortunate to receive some holiday treats from the good folks at Jane Iredale to share with you readers and possibly give you some ideas how to update your party look this season or maybe some gift giving ideas to the beauty addict in your life. First of all, can I just mention how lovely the items are wrapped when you order from them?

Back in 1994, when Jane founded her company, she would cut a sprig of lavendar from her garden to include in each box as a token of her appreciation. However, once her company grew this small gift disappeared but luckily it’s back. It’s a lovely and personal touch, also it just makes the box smell wonderful. It makes each receiver feel super special.

Here’s what I received:

Just Kissed, tinted lip plumper, in Montreal (cherry red) and Venice (deep brownish wine) and 24-Karat Gold Dust, in Silver.

Here’s a quick swatch lineup:

As you can see the lip tints are indeed sheer and it leaves a subtle stain to the lips. It also contains unique, time-released peptides shown to increase hydration and stimulate collagen synthesis. Spearmint and peppermint oils, in combination with ginger root extract, stimulate blood circulation, making lips fuller. Shea butter, sunflower oil and avocado soften and hydrate lips and essential oils of lemon and tangerine exfoliate dead skin cells. It’s available in seven other shades and is appropriate for all skin types.

Key ingredients:

  • Beeswax to give microbial protection
  • Moisturizing Shea Butter
  • Palmitoyl Oligopeptide to stimulate production of collagen and increase lip hydration, reduce lip furrows, and enhance the volume of lips.

Twenty-four Karat Gold Dust is meant to be used not just for your face but your body (when mixed with your favorite body moisturizer) and maybe even your hair (when mixed with your hair gel, styling lotions). This actually contains real gold flakes for absolute shine and sparkle. This product is available in six other shades and I’m really interested in the Bronze and Rose Gold. How gorgeous would that be on the lids for a smoky bronze eye look?

The key ingredients are Mica to provide shimmer and glide, it may also contain Iron Oxides.  You can try this with a damp brush to line your eyes and add some depth to the lids.

I decide to try this shimmer powder with the Venice lip plumper as a fun holiday look for ice skating with my family on a late Sunday morning.

I used the powder about my cheekbones and you can see it’s pretty subtle but if you look closely and if you notice a pearly glow, that’s the Silver shimmer powder. I lined my lips lightly with a nude beige lip liner to keep color from migrating from my lip lines. Venice is a lovely, wine shade – it’s a color I am very comfortable wearing because it’s very low maintenance.

Since it’s a lip plumper, you will feel the tingle. It’s not a super intense burn as some would experience from other lip plumpers but it’s not subtle either so please proceed with caution if you are not a fan of lip plumping lipsticks. I do like the minty scent and it is pretty strong. Another red light if you are sensitive to scented cosmetics/face products. It has a bit of slip when you apply but not a whole lot. It dries down comfortably on my lips and it wasn’t at all drying. I get about 2.5/3 hrs of wear time (including sipping beverages while wearing).

I tapped the shimmer powder on the screw off lid and applied with a fan brush. I felt that this wasn’t as finely milled as a MAC pigment powder. It does go on easily and you should apply with care because it’s easy to apply this heavy handed. This powder stayed with me for the most of the day, I didn’t feel the need to reapply. This is perfect as a highlighting powder for holiday parties, especially for pictures. I would probably dampen the tip of a dense pencil brush, like a MAC #219, and highlight the inner corners of my eyes for extra brightness.

Here’s Venice on my lips:

Because my lips are naturally dark, you can see that this lipstick isn’t very bright or deep on me. It’s a very subtle red, perhaps a great starter red lipstick for the color shy. I used this without a lip liner, I think next time I fill in my lips with a red lip liner and top the lip plumper over it – I am not shy wearing a red lip. I felt that this one settled into cracks of my lips by the end of the day, not a fan of that. So my tip would be to make sure your lips are exfoliated and free from any peeling when wearing this one.

This is my first time trying the Jane Iredale cosmetic line and I am pleasantly surprised. I have a hard time finding lip products that are kind to my super sensitive lips. I would be willing to check out more lipsticks and glosses. Not sure I’d look into adding any more lip plumpers into my collection just because I’m not the biggest fan of the plumping sensation from the peppermint but if the color is right, I’d reconsider. Also, I’d be willing to check out more of the 24-Karat Gold Dust powders just because I’m a sucker for shimmer powders.
