I’m in New York for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and while I went to some shows at Lincoln Center, I also went to a smaller presentation in the Lower East Side. I decided to start off my coverage with the Pencey and Pencey x Mia Moretti spring-summer 2013 collections because though small, I found the contemporary collection to have fun, wearable pieces that were girly and tough at the same time.
I thought the choice of location at the Grey Lady in the Lower East Side spoke to the vibe of the collection and you could see any of the pieces on girls walking around downtown. You could dress up or down – some of the models were even wearing Chuck Taylors. My very favorite piece was the silk, loose jumpsuit that the designer Christina Minasian was wearing in black. I need it now!
The Pencey x Mia Moretti spring summer collection was inspired by the Jazz Age and the two prints were Eva Peron (small silhouettes printed in a pattern) and Josephine Baker (banana leaf pattern). I loved the menswear inspired look of the blouses, shorts, and trousers juxtaposed with flowers in the models’ hair.
I didn’t know about Pencey before I received an invitation to review the collection, but now that I know about it I definitely want to add some pieces to my closet.
