Make Up For Ever Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow Review

I really try not to play favorites when it comes to cosmetic brands but I often fall guilty when I pay attention to certain names, which will remain nameless but I’m sure you can guess which ones roll off my tongue. So when I reached the bottom of my favorite gel liner, I took the opportunity to finally open a fresh bottle.  I tried Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow – don’t let the Eye Shadow in the title fool you, this is cream for lining your eyes!

I love that it comes with a protective cover that creates an air-tight seal between the outer lid and liner. I’ve had issues with some gel liners in the past drying out only after a few uses even if I close the bottle tightly. I am hoping this little lid provided extra insurance that this liner will last for a long time.

It’s a nice satin black that dries within 30 seconds.

And here it is in all it’s glory. It goes on very easily – with just a bit of product on your brush, I like a stiff slanted MAC #235, provides a solid line. I add a bit more liner to my brush and darken the line and add a little cat-liner flick at the corners.

I then tried it out as lid base for a smoky eye look.  I layered a gunmetal taupe on top and lined my top lash line and just 3/4 of my bottom lash line. I smudge the bottom line just a bit and I got a great easy smoky eye within five minutes.

This has lasted a solid eight hour work day, including a sweaty cardio session during lunch, but I do always use a shadow primer (Two Faced Shadow Insurance) so I’m not exactly sure on longevity if applied without the use of a primer. I am also a contact lens wearer and this does not irritate my eyes. Although it’s labeled as waterproof, it does come off easily with regular eye makeup remover and I did notice some fading at the corners of my eyes but it did survive a workday and that’s all I need! I can’t wait to try to tightline with this cream shadow and try on my waterline for intense smoky eye looks.

I am really glad I ventured to the Make Up For Ever line and I think this will definitely pique my interest into trying out more of what the company has to offer. Yes, I am pretty dedicated to certain brands and sometimes I just have blinders on ignoring other great makeup brands out there. MUFE has always been on my radar and I’m happy I finally got around to try out something from this brand.

Make Up For Ever is sold at Sephora and, freestanding boutiques in New York and currently a new boutique in Los Angeles. You can also find MUFE boutiques within Sephora stores at the Venetian Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas and the South Coast Plaza Mall in Costa Mesa, CA. You can also get makeup tips and seminar classes at some of these boutiques.

Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow retails for $23/USD.
