Dear MISSter Simms,
I’m in love with an older man. Like…way older. Old enough that he actually has kids close to my age. We met on an online dating site a little over half a year ago and have been inseparable ever since. Both of our families disapprove of our relationship, and a part of me fears that the outside pressure will eventually doom us. What should I do? Find someone my age, or follow my heart?
Geriatric People Person
While rom-coms galore have thrown disparate couples together, put them through the ringer, and had them coming out the other side smelling like petunias, real life usually doesn’t work like that. That said, go for it! I say there’s nothing wrong with enjoying another person’s company, even if they are old enough to be your father. And while your respective families may not approve of your coupling, who cares? It’s your life, not theirs, and you sound like you’re both old enough to make your own decisions. Perhaps they’ll get over it one day, and if they don’t, tough tater tots. By the way, make sure to get your name in the old guy’s will just in case something goes down (God forbid). You don’t want to end up like Anna Nicole Smith, do you?
