Dear MISSter Simms,
I’m 24 and was married once before several years ago for an incredibly short amount of time. Like they say, we all make mistakes! I now find myself about to get married again to someone new, and we’re in the middle of planning what should be a wonderful wedding. The thing is, I want an engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party, and all the traditional wedding events, but should I considering I did all that the first time around? I really just want to enjoy these things again with my new fiancé! What do you think?
New Bride to Be Again
Do I think you should do all those things again? Sure, why not! Go crazy! You’re still young, after all, so why not enjoy yourself? Just don’t expect all your friends to share in the joy with you. Bridal showers, weddings, strippers, engagement parties…all of that ain’t cheap. And while your friends may have been doing just fine several years ago, word on the streets is that unemployment is still fairly high, and we’re still up to our necks in the recession. What you might want to consider doing is having one big party that combines elements of all the things you want, and letting your friends know that gifts are totally optional. Your friends would not only appreciate not having to shell out money they may not have for you (again), but they’d get to enjoy their first ever bridal shower with a stripper jumping out of a cake!
