Each spring Bond No.9 releases a fragrance inspired by a park – for 2012 Bond No. 9 releases its 7th fragrance inspired by New York’s beautiful public spaces. Inspired by Central Park West, the fabled thoroughfare runs the entire two-and-a-half mile length of our greatest urban grassland, situated just across the street. As one of the grandest, most sumptuous addresses in America, Central Park West is home to elegant grand-manner apartment houses, American Museum of Natural History, the acclaimed gourmet restaurant Jean Georges, and the Hayden Planetarium to name a few.
The scent is distinctly floral: Narcissus mingled with tangy ylang ylang, pepper and hints of white-petal mélange orris, jasmine, and gardenia. I’m usually not a floral fragrance girl so I was hesitant to try Bond No. 9 Central Park West but I’m so glad I gave it a try. Though there are a lot of florals in Central Park West, there is so much more to this scent. It does start out floral, but not cloyingly so. After it settles the scent becomes more complex, less floral and very lovely. I can’t quite describe exactly what it smells like, I can only say that I keep putting my nose to wrist so that I can get another whiff. Another thing I love about Bond No. 9 Central Park West is that it doesn’t come on too strong. The scent lasts all day but not for everyone in your path to smell. I believe that only people close enough to kiss you should smell your perfume and Bond No. 9 definitely delivers on that end.
In addition to the fragrance, I adore the packaging. The traditional houndstooth pattern is given a little edge by making it oversize and white/purple. The “icing on the cake” is the detachable, double-row bracelet of pink beads with a big pink floral blossom that can be worn on its own as a brooch. Central Park No. 9 is a lovely scent for spring, or perfect for an upcoming Mother’s Day gift for the Mama in your life.
