Ask MISSter Simms – I’m In Love With My Mom’s Married Friend

I'm In Love With My Mom's Friend

I'm In Love With My Mom's Friend

Dear MISSter Simms,

Ok.  So I’m a 20 year old in love with a 40 year old man.  As you can see, he is 20 years my senior.  The other thing?  He’s married…and he’s my mom’s friend.  He told me he loved me one day, we started a fling, and eventually consummated the relationship when his wife went out of town for a business trip.  However, his wife recently found out what was going on, and has now threatened to divorce him and take their two children with her.  What should I do?  I really love this guy, but I’m not sure if I should attempt to walk away from the situation or be there for him if the divorce really does go through.

Hoping and Waiting

Dear HAW,

I can only imagine you just snorted a Scarface level mound of Coke to even consider staying with this dude.  First of all he’s twice your age, and that’s just nasty.  He was probably thought he was having a harmless mid-life crisis ’til it wound up destroying him.  Second of all he’s got kids, and those kids are going to grow up to hate you and him for everything that’s happened.  And you best believe mama is gonna do her best brainwashing job on them.  Third of all, helllooooo.  If he cheated on his wife, who he had kids with mind you, what makes you think it couldn’t happen to YOU?  Besides the fact that nobody seems to think bad things can happen to them, that is…I’m not saying once a cheater, always a cheater, but…the odds are definitely not in your favor.  Finally, if you do wind up staying with this guy someway, somehow, you know what everyone’s going to know you as?  The home wrecker that ruined his first marriage!  And I’m sure that’s not a title you want to live with the rest of your life.  What you need to do is get the hell away from him, lay low in the cut for a good while, and then reemerge after everything’s blown over.  And don’t hook up with old married men again!
