NARS 2011 holiday collection can be summed up in three words: Modern, Audacious and Iconic….
Yep, it is quite the showstopping night look. It’s striking and sensual, perfect from Holiday formals and special date nights. This is a look that you will need to put the time into. What if you want a product that you can easily wear from day to night without too much effort?
I am also assuming that you are shopping and saving for gifts that will go to your loved ones. You shouldn’t feel left out either but if you pick just one item from this collection, what would it be?
As you know, I’m obsessed with eye shadows and liners so I would recommend Ponderosa, a cream eyeshadow:
It is a lovely, mink brown loaded with fine gold and silver shimmer.
As you can see it has a great amount of pigment for a cream shadow. Don’t let this scare you because when you apply a single layer as your lid base it goes on pretty sheer:
Also keep in mind that my skin tone may differ from yours. But if you are darker or lighter than me, this will go on pretty sheer regardless.
I have been using this as an eye base to build upon for smoky golden brown eye looks:
I really love this cream shadow not just for it’s awesome color but because of it’s versatility. If I am just taking my daughter to the mall or market and I want to look somewhat put together – I would wear a single layer (like in the second picture) and add a thin slash of a bronze liquid liner, such as Urban Decay’s 24/7 Waterproof Eye Liner in Smog. Complete with mascara just on the tips of your lashes and you’re done!
But for a smoky look that can go from the office to a dinner date or holiday party (pic above) I would add a pretty heavy application of Ponderosa on the lid. Next, take a synthetic bristled shadow brush and blend the edges to smooth any harsh lines. I then applied NARS Nepal, a soft rose gold, in my crease with a fluffy crease brush, MAC #217. Using that same crease brush, I take NARS Night Clubbing, black LOADED with gold pearl glitter, and I add this to my outer v. I apply from the outer edge of my lid an upward angle then I take it and brush it in 1/4 in toward the middle – you want to mimic an inverted V on the outer edge of your lid. Take a fluffy brush and blend for a good minute or two. You want to make sure you blend any hard lines. Just feel free to build up more color – remember to blend! I apply MAC Woodwinked, antique gold, just to the inner corners with my crease brush. This adds a warm gold gold shimmer – I love this effect! I, then apply Night Clubbing again with a damp flat eye lining push brush and placed it along my lower lash line, just half way to the middle. Take a pencil brush and smudge from outer corner, making your way to your inner tear duct. You want a soft diffused line. I applied a liquid pen liner, NARS Eye Liner Stylo – Nuits Blanches, on the top of my lash line ending with a slight cat eye angle. You’ll want to connect the two lines: top and bottom lash line but be sure to blend the bottom liner with your pencil brush so the end result is soft and smoky.
I am very pleased with this cream shadow. It will last the entire day once you set it on top of a good eye primer, I use TF Shadow Insurance Primer in Lemon Drop.
