We’ve been riding the menswear trend for some time and the brave among of us have even worn our fair share of ties and bowties. While for some this is a trend, I love menswear and rather than putting it in the “trend” file – I put it in the “classic” file. After all, Coco Chanel made menswear for women one-hundred years ago – it seems to have stood the test of time, no?
I came across a new selection of ties from London-based company Marwood. Founded in 2009, Marwood began its life as a blog, displaying a detailed sketchbook of research which ultimately inspired the concept and attitude of it’s first collection of neckties. The debut collection, which launched in January 2011 featured ties made from traditional English lace. These quickly gained the attention of ‘b Store’ in London, shortly followed by international stockists including Barneys New York, Tomorrowland in Japan and Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong.
I absolutely love these neckties and bowties. I’m a huge fan of lace and the juxtaposition of such a feminine textile in a traditionally men’s design such as a necktie and bowtie is quite beautiful. They may be blurring the distinctions between menswear because these ties are screaming women’s wear (or Gabriella Wear) to me! Luckily for us, we can now find the collection online at the Founders & Followers Holiday Pop-Up Shop.
