M.I.S.S. Techcessories: Last Minute Holiday Gift Guide 2011

Powershot Puppy

Now you're playing with power(shots)!

Gadzooks!  If you’re anything like me (meaning: super awesome) then you have yet to do your Christmas shopping.  Newsflash, people: there are only five days left ’til Santa comes around on his magic carpet trying to stuff his fat behind down your chimney and jack your Christmas cookies!  Luckily for you, I’m here to give you some last minute shopping advice so your friend, family, or frienemy won’t be left out in the cold with a lump of coal in their stocking.  Here are a handful of cheap technological treasures, sure to put a smile on someone’s face.  Or, at the very least, not make them want to put you on next year’s naughty list.

For the budding digital photographer…

An inexpensive camera that takes great photos?  Yes, please.  While the Canon Powershot 1200 (seen at the top of this post) won’t be replacing anyone’s DSLR and doesn’t handle moving targets too well, it is pocket friendly, wallet friendly, and takes some excellent photos.  And that’s without having to set any crazy manual controls.  $79.99 at Newegg

For the person who needs some protection…

Miniot

Classy, not trashy

Where would we be without trees?  Dead and buried in the ground, that’s where!  Seriously though.  Trees are awesome.  Without them we wouldn’t have paper, skateboards, tables, or stuff to put in the dashboards of our cars to make them all fancy like.  Speaking of fancy, these wooden iPhone 4/4S cases from Miniot definitely say, “Hey, look at me.  I’m a boss.” $103 at Miniot

For the music lover or jogger…

harajuku lovers

Harajuku girls for your ears

“Cho kawaii!!!!!!!!” is what the recipient of this gift will inexplicably shout out after feasting their eyes on these beauties.   The Harajuku Space Age in-ear headphones live up to their name by featuring a futuristic anime-inspired style and interchangeable body colors that *gasp* fit comfortably in your ear.  They’re produced by Monster, the same people behind your favorite musicians’ lines of earphones (Beats by Dre, Diddy Beats, Heartbeats). $89.95 at Monster

For the e-bookworm…

Amazon Kindle Touch

Reach out and touch something...like this e-book reader

For all the tree hugging hippies out there decrying things like deforestation and the wasting of paper, this gift’s for you.  Oh, and for people who enjoy a good book.  The Touch takes everything you loved about the Kindle, upgrades the screen, shrinks it a bit, and lets your fingers do all the page turning, e-book shopping, and web browsing via its touch screen interface.  It’s not as colorful as the Kindle Fire, but the Touch sure makes the job of reading dead simple. $99 at Amazon

For the data devourer…

Mimobot USB

Most adorable USB drive ever? Probably.

Sometimes I envision a world where people have been replaced by ridiculously adorable USB flash drives.  But society falls apart because they lack   thumbs…and the other digits that constitute a hand.  Mimobot has been creating crazy-awesome designer USB flash drives since forever, but for my money this may be the heart-warmingly cutest of them all.  Awwwwwww. $40 at the MoMA store
