Beauty Tip of the Week: Tackling the “Urban Eskimo” Look

As some of you might recall from Fall Fashion Week back in January, the fashion label Rag & Bone featured beauty looks created by makeup artist Gucci Westman for their Fall 2011 collection. As Ms. Westman put it, “The look is about a nomadic traveler. She’s an effortless Eskimo.” She said, “I created a smoky coal-hued eye and a sun burnt look to the skin.” This was Gucci’s inspiration behind this season’s contemporary downtown look that she has dubbed the “Urban Eskimo”.

The look features many of the products Gucci designed exclusively for her partnership with Revlon as their Global Artistic Director. You can currently find her collection called “Expressionists” in drugstores across the country now. She is being credited as the breath of fresh air that has breathed new life into the Revlon cosmetics line. This collection is not only affordable but, it offers a wide array of hip and youthful colors to play with, as well as highly pigmented hues that can easily transition from fall to winter.

The runway look centered around a rosy complexion, made possible by smearing Revlon’s Cream Blush in Berry Flirtations on the apples of the cheeks. Westman kept the look urban with black rimmed lids and a smoky eye by lining the inner rim of models’ eyes with Revlon’s Luxurious Color Eyeliner in Black Velvet and blending Revlon’s Illuminance Cream Shadow in Wild Orchid (a rich eggplant color) with the Matte Eyeshadow in Rich Sable. To finish it off, she kept the lips bare and swiped a nude gloss over them.

Finally, Guido Paulau (head stylist for Redken) complemented the makeup with loose braids scattered throughout the hair. A relatively easy to achieve look at home, with the aid of clear plastic hair bands. Manicurist, Jin Soon Choi completed the look by painting the models’ nails with slate colored nail polish in Revlon’s Steel Her Heart.

Overall, this is a hip, simple look that is perfect for work, school and everything in between and won’t break your bank account.
