Another day, another “iPhone Killer.” The latest smartphone looking to usurp the throne (er…not that Throne)? The Motorola Droid Bionic. While it probably won’t end Apple’s dominance of the smartphone market, it should at least give Verizon customers looking for a new phone a reason to pause before reaching out and grabbing a shiny iPhone 4. The very first Droid was one of the best things to ever come out of Motorola, and this latest phone baring the name continues that legacy. The Bionic has a huge 4.3 inch Corning Gorilla Glass display, a screen that people prone to dropping their phones should really appreciate. There’s a front facing camera of course, and an 8MP one around back that also shoots 1080p HD video. The phone runs on the latest version of Android (aka Gingerbread), and inside there’s a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory (along with a 16GB microSD card…sweet). Most important of all, though, is that this phone is Verizon’s first LTE device. What’s LTE, you ask? Lightly Torched Eggs? Not quite. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and is the 4G standard of choice adopted by Verizon. You know what that means: faster downloads than your old phone was ever capable of.
The Droid Bionic is available now exclusively on Verizon for $299 with a two-year contract (naturally).
