Tadashi Shoji’s Spring 2012 collection was a mixed bag. The show started off strong with a few dye-gradient dresses that were very beautiful, specifically the white and green number. My next favorite piece was what you could call a “bumble-bee” dress, with horizontal yellow and black stripes down the length of the dress. Additional standout looks included the pleated dresses (in black, nude, and pink) and the floral, ethereal gowns towards the end of the show. There were numerous designs in between the aforementioned pieces that were just average; I was underwhelmed with many of the nude/white frocks and absolutely confused with the bright strapless dresses (prom wear, anyone?). Hopefully, in the future, Shoji will include casual wear or separates as a part of his collection – Only then will I be able to judge his aesthetic more accurately.
