It’s been a difficult time being a Blackberry fan, what with Android devices and iPhones multiplying faster than rabbits in heat. But fear not, Blackberry faithful, because RIM is dropping some Blackberry 7 equipped heat this year that is sure to make both Apple and all those Android manufacturers stand up and take notice. You already know about the incoming Blackberry Bold 9900. Now take a look at the new Blackberry Torch 9850.
Not to be confused with it’s lesser sibling, the Torch 9810, the 9850 is an altogether different beast that features an all new touchscreen design. It features the largest Blackberry screen ever known to man, woman, or child; a 3.7 inch TFT LCD display with what RIM calls Liquid Graphics. The large surface should make swiping through information a fairly painless experience while also proving easy on the eyes. On the back there’s a 5 megapixel camera equipped with a 4x digital zoom that’s capable of recording 720p HD video. Media can be stored on the phone’s internal memory, or on external microSD cards up to 32GB.
Of course, none of that would mean anything to current and potential Blackberry owners if RIM wasn’t giving people what they loved about the phones in the first place. The phone is running on a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor and utilizes RIMs latest operating system, Blackberry 7. It’s been upgraded and optimized to make tasks a lot more easy and seamless than they have been in the past. Web browsing and media viewing is more responsive than ever, and you still get BBM, email support, and all the other things that have made Blackberry’s so great over the years.
The Torch 9850 will be available sometime at the end of the month on Sprint for an as yet undisclosed price.
