MISS Beauty Tip Of The Week: Back To School Beauty Essentials

To all my fellow students reading this post and gearing up for dorm living in the next couple of weeks, here are some suggestions for your Back-To-School Beauty List. As most collegiates are acutely aware, the mirrors in dorm rooms suck and using the bathroom doesn’t equate to having privacy in college. That’s why I recommend bringing some kind of vanity mirror (preferably lighted) with you to school. I use a Conair lighted makeup mirror. I got mine at Walgreens for $22 and it comes in handy for makeup application, tweezing and everything in between. Another must-have item is a cosmetics bag that’s lightweight and portable enough to use both at school and on weekend getaways with friends. The Sonia Kashuk cosmetic bag collection at Target won’t kill your wallet.

If you go to school in New England like me, going to class with wet hair during winter is a recipe for disaster. In this case, a blow dryer is a necessity. Try a tourmaline blow dryer like Bespoke Labs T3 Featherweight hair dryer. The price tag isn’t for everyone, but tourmaline crystals ensure a speedy drying time. Pick one up at Walgreens for $100. Winter months can also be cruel to skin – chapped lips are never fun. Target is running a sale on a 4-pack of Burt’s Bee’s lip balm, a sure-fire way to avoid this problem.

If you’re planning on wearing makeup while at school, be sure to bring a set of cosmetic brushes and brush cleanser with you. This will save you the hassle of waiting until your roommate’s gone and using hers! E.L.F. Cosmetics makes an affordable and compact brush set for $12 at Target. Don’t forget to bring a fresh tube of mascara with you – remember that mascara needs to be replaced every 2 months and it shouldn’t be shared with others. Maybelline has teamed up with various designers for a limited time to revamp its Great Lash Mascara. Get yours at Target for $6 .

My freshman year of college, a friend gave me Ms. Manicure’s Handy Dandy Mani set as a going away gift and it has been a lifesaver. Unfortunately, college life doesn’t guarantee time to get a mani-pedi as often as one might like. Having a nail care kit comes in real handy while at school. Get yours at Drugstore.com for $12.

Last but not least: the one thing a college student does a lot of (besides studying) is walking. That’s why I highly recommend investing in a foot bath. Conair’s foot bath is available at Target for $22. Those hooves will be sparkling in no time! Plus, it makes for a great de-stressor during finals.
