♥♥ Legendary poet, musician, and author Gil Scott-Heron passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the age of 62. Scott-Heron rose to fame in the 1970′s as a R&B singer and spoken word artist documenting the struggles and everyday lives of African-Americans. Known to some as the “Godfather of Hip-Hop,” Gil Scott-Heron laid the foundation for many rappers and spoken word artists whose songs and lyrics we enjoy today. His work has been heavily sampled and his 1970 piece “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” has since been referenced extensively in pop culture. In 2010 released, Gil Scott-Heron released the album, I’m New Here, to widespread critical acclaim.
Gil Scott-Heron is an artist who has been a huge impact on me personally. His words and songs brought me knowledge, comfort, and inspiration. I am thankful for all that he has contributed to the world. There will simply never be another artist like Gil Scott-Heron….
♥♥ Check out Astral Projects Vintage Crates Special: Brother Soul for a great tribute to Gil Scott-Heron.
