Beauty Tip of The Week: DIY Summer Makeup Look

As an avid reader of beauty blogs, one of the types of posts I enjoy most are the breakdowns of a look an artist accomplished while on set. This makes it quick and simple for readers who want to achieve a polished look for themselves, but don’t have the skills and artillery of a professional makeup artist. I had a shoot recently and wanted to share a very easy look I did.  It’s not important to use the same products as I did,  but anything you have that is similar will suffice. To begin, I started with a clean, well moisturized face (shown above).

I always work on the eyes first so that I won’t get eyeshadow all over the foundation. Plus, it cuts down on time because you can simply wipe off any excess shadow that falls onto the face. For this look, I used one neutral, taupe shadow from the Urban Decay Naked Palette in Sidecar. I pressed the shadow into the lid with a shadow brush and then blended it out really well.

I took the same color and smudged it underneath the eye with a smudger shadow brush.

Next, with a dark brown, kohl liner (NYX dark brown Eye Pencil), line the lower “water line”. Also, in the inner corner of the eye, I used a light shimmer to highlight and give the eye more symmetry.

After applying foundation all over the face and concealer under the eyes, I set both with a translucent powder, then applied a coral blush to the apples of the cheeks and blended it out with bronzer. In this case I used La femme Peach Sparkle and NARS Laguna bronzer.

The key to this look is to use a shimmer or highlighter on the highest part of the cheekbones and down the bridge of the nose. I used a fan brush to apply MAC Honey Rose Magically Cool Liquid Powder in these areas and it looks amazing!

For lips, I used a light pink/nude NARS Chelsea Girls Lip Laquer. Last step is to curl lashes, apply mascara and voila! DIY, effortless summer style!
