The 1970s look is a huge trend for spring/summer 2011 and one of the looks that are coming back in full swing is Maxi Dresses. What exactly makes a dress a Maxi dress? The length – that’s basically it. They can be formal or casual – their only defining characteristic is that the length goes down to the ankle.
For summer, I love Maxi dresses. They’re easy and comfortable to wear and you look totally put together just by wearing one simple piece of clothing. You can wear them to work, to the beach, to run errands or out on the town. Pair them with a pair of sandals, wedges, espadrilles or heels and you’re ready to go. Since Summer Maxi dresses are usually sleeveless or strapless, I think bangle bracelets are always a good look to pair with the dresses – the more the better!
Maxi Dresses come in just about any variety. Dresses with ruffles, in soft shades and with crochet detail hearken back to the more natural side of the 1970s, while Halston Heritage has Maxi Dresses that will have you ready to skip the line at the club a la Club 54. Not all Maxi dresses have to have a retro feel though, everyone from Insight, T by Alexander Wang and Topshop have updated variations that won’t leave you looking like you are in a time warp.
As you’re dreaming of hot summer days (and lovin’) a good way to gear up is to get yourself a Maxi Dress. It will make you look classically elegant and on trend all in one.
