M.I.S.S. NYFW: Woolrich John Rich & Bros. Black Label by Paula Gerbase Fall/Winter 2011

Woolrich John Rich & Bros. has launched a new Black Label collection for women with Paula Gerbase as the Creative Director of the new premium women’s line. Gerbase has taken the best of what Woolrich is known for – luxurious woolens – and created a collection for the ladies that takes the best of menswear and womenswear to create a collection that marries heritage with fashion.

Trained in bespoke tailoring on Saville Row, Paula Gerbase’s her eye for quality of fabric and construction and her distinct minimalist aesthetic provide the basis for the Woolrich Black Label Fall Winter 2011 collection.  Gerbase studied the traditional Woolrich hunting and fishing garments, stripped them down and added a lighter, feminine take on the functional men’s outdoor pieces.  Contrasts in fabrics like sheer layering pieces paired with furs and wool melton mirror the masculine/feminine dichotomy that the collection represents.  Working with Woolrich allowed Gerbase to collaborate with one of the oldest Woolen Mills in the U.S. to create exclusive woolen yarns and constructions, unique silk prints and fading cashmere knits.

This was one of my favorite collections that I had the chance to see at Fashion Week.  I’m a big lover of menswear pieces re-interpreted for women and many of the ensembles looked put together without sacrificing comfort – something that is key for me.  My favorites included the Field Jacket with Coyote Collar, the Shrunken Sweatshirt with Quilted Shoulder, Pleated Front Silk Shirt and Flannel Pleat Front Trouser.  These were the kinds of clothes that you could see on women from college campuses to board rooms.  The muted pallete of grey, navy and black gave the collection a sombre mood that let the clothing’s simplicity and quality shine through. We will keep you updated with retail info as we get closer to the release – I definitely can’t wait to find out where I can get my hands on it!
