From the depths of Brooklyn comes even more other-worldly musical goodness. This time around in the shape of a Danish ex-ballerina with some bad ass capes. Oh Land, singer and producer Nanna Øland Fabricius’s stage name, makes music to awaken the senses and spark your curiosity. She recently landed state side and began winning over fans at music staples like CMJ and SXSW, and even made the coveted Billboard “Artist To Watch” list for 2011. Her music is a mix of electronic sounds and folk harmonies. “I want my music to feel like 2050 meets something really classic, like meeting a stranger that feels as familiar as an old friend.” says Oh Land. More like a stranger you meet and becomes your best friend over night!
- Her style is as amazing as her voice and we are totally obsessed!
While Oh Land is living it up in BK now, it is only a recent thing for the song bird. She is originally from Copenhagen, only coming to the city in 2010. I can only imagine what that culture shock might have been like, but I’m sure listening to her song “White Nights” gives a good idea. In fact the whole album, really blends the old with the new, the hi-tech with the natural, the magic with reality. “I wanted my new album to strike a balance between the big city and nature,” she explains, “because they’re both pulling me in different directions all the time. I live and grow in the eye of the storm.”

Oh Land continues to tour this Spring and comes back state side in March. New Yorkers make sure to catch her at Terminal 5 on March 8th. LA, Oh Land plays the Music Box on March 25th. Her first full length album is self titled Oh Land and comes out 3/15 in the US, so make sure to check that out as well!
