Way back when at the dawn of the millennium, digital cameras came in one color: silver. That was pretty awesome if silver was your favorite color in the whole wide world…pretty much the opposite of awesome if it wasn’t. Then someone got the bright idea to vary the game up by introducing black cameras in the mix. Groundbreaking! It’d be a while before we got to the point where a whole rainbow of colors were offered, but now PENTAX has taken camera customization to a whole new dimension with their Optio NB1000.
For the NB 1000 PENTAX hooked up with fellow Japanese brand diablock of Kawada Toys to give the camera a Nanoblock facade. What in blue blazes in a Nanoblock you ask after spitting out your morning coffee? Think of them as Japan’s answer to LEGO blocks. Using 100 miniature blocks included with the camera, you can customize the front however you see fit in glorious, glorious, three dimensions. The options are only limited by your own imagination. And once you’ve created your Nanoblock magnum opus, you’ll realize underneath it all is a highly capable 14 megapixel camera
The Optio NB1000 is available now in Japan only at RESTIR for 19,800 yen, or around $230.
