In a city where there’s no shortage of international culinary delights (Ethiopian, Chinese, Latin American, Greek, Arabian, you name it), there’s still something to be said about a good, classic American sandwich. And there’s no place in DC that puts a sandwich together better than Adam’s Morgan favorite, So’s Your Mom.
So’s Your Mom is the kind of place you could pass by a hundred million times and not realize it’s there. In fact, as you stroll past it and notice the tacky neon signs in the window and rusty prison bars covering said windows, you’re more likely to think it’s actually your friendly neighborhood liquor store or pawn sh0p. Can’t say a trip here has ever been about the aesthetics. No, the real allure behind So’s Your Mom has always been the huge array of delicious sandwiches the store has to offer. The chalkboard behind the counter lists 48 sandwiches, ranging from my personal favorite, the Turkey Club on a roll, to the mega popular Bronx Pastrami with deli mustard on seeded rye bread. Sandwiches aren’t overloaded with meats and toppings, but what you do get is extremely high quality and, probably just as importantly, all kinds of delicious.
Chic and trendy it ain’t, but So’s Your Mom is hands down the best place to go in town if you ever find yourself in Adam’s Morgan with a hankering for a some meat and vegetables slapped between two slices of bread.
