We Got The Beat : Kim Ann Foxman

Kim Ann Foxman of Hercules and the Love Affair

It only took about a week for the internet to explode with word of Kim Ann Foxman‘s solo project. Her video and track for “Creature” has been posted on every music blog and site from here to Tim-Buk-Tu. “Creature” is a flashback to a better time, when clothes were loud and the house was deep. For all of us 80’s babies, ravers, and house fiends, the attraction was instant. And who better to keep this sound alive than an ol’ school raver from Hawaii who grew up wanting to be Miss Lady Kier?

Kim Ann Foxman is known by most as the DJ for the LGBT-friendly group, Hercules and the Love Affair. She is “out” as a lesbian and worked with H&LA member Andrew Butler (who is out as well), on “Creature” as well as on the b-side track “What You Need” under Butler’s label MR. INTL. They debuted their spin-off and new material at this year’s BUTT Halloween party to a packed house of Deep House lovers! What really sparked all the chatter about this project was the video for “Creature”. This brilliantly shot black and white video features Kim, cool as ever, serenading a group of cold vogue-ers.  The video is directed by Jonathan Turner from Make Believe and stars the dancers Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air, Tigga Calore, and Gernard “Pta” Blair. Please, take a moment to make some catwalk room near you when you watch the video below. Warning: Attempting to vogue while watching may occur.

So what is in store for the Hawaii native now? Kim Ann Foxman is still DJing and touring Europe with H&LA. She is also still making new designs for her jewelry line whenever she has time. Rave reviews of Foxman’s music and video continue to pour in, and hopefully said reviews will influence her to pursue a solo career and a full length record.
