My Latest Obsession: Chan Luu

Every year before I start doing my serious and concentrated shopping for Christmas, I give myself a little pre-Christmas present because I know that the next couple of months are going to be all about shopping for others. Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE shopping for presents. Seriously! It is one of my absolute favorite things to do. I will happily spend hours, even days in stores or online hunting for just the right present for someone. I take gift giving very seriously, but I am also a fan of indulging myself every now and then. My indulgences don’t have to be big ticket items. Last year, I treated myself to a DVD and a paperback book. This year, I unexpectedly spent more than I thought I was going to, but I am so in love with my purchase that I don’t regret it one bit. The object of my affection? A Chan Luu wrap bracelet.

I love to accessorize. When I was out of work for most of 2009, it was a way for me to dress up clothing that I already had without having to invest in a wardrobe I didn’t have the budget for. As much as I love jewelry, I don’t really have a designer that I follow with a passion, or specific trends that are must haves for me. It all comes down to walking into a store and finding something that I love. This was definitely the case in point when I went with one of my coworkers to the Edition by Banana Republic holiday preview party earlier this week.

Edition by Banana Republic is a retail accessories concept store located in San Francisco. I’ve visited the space several times, and always manage to find a piece that I must go home with. When I set foot into the store, there were several clutches, a necklace and a couple of rings that I thought were gorgeous, but any thought I had of purchasing any of those quickly went out the door when I saw the Chan Luu wrap bracelets.

I was immediately drawn to a wrap bracelet with a black leather band, swarovski crystal beads, and gun metal gold beads. It took my breath away. It sparkled in the light, but wasn’t too overpowering. It could dress up a blazer with jeans, or add an edge to a tee or tank. When I was asked if I wanted to try it on, I immediately agreed, and once I saw it on my wrist in the mirror, I was hooked. There was no way that I was going to leave the store without this little piece of heaven going with me.

Retailing for $225, the piece is definitely an investment, but since there was a sale going on, it helped to bring the price down. Chan Luu’s pieces are all made in her home country of Vietnam (which I definitely support) and are made from genuine semi-precious stones, metals, pearls and colored leathers. All bracelets come with a lifetime guarantee, so if something happens to it, you can get it replaced without a problem. If you take all of that info and the price against the life of the bracelet, it’s difficult not to purchase it.

After having to scrimp and save for so long, it was nice being able to purchase something that I will have for many years to come, and enjoy every moment that I have it on my wrist. If a wrap bracelet isn’t necessarily your thing, Luu also designs single layer bracelets, as well as a wide range of necklaces and earrings. I’m sure it won’t take long for you to find a piece that you can’t live without!

Until next week (and my next obsession)!

I think Chan Luu just provides a warranty to “repair” pieces, not replace them. But, still awesome!
