I remember the first time I’d ever seen Prince on television – not only was I captivated by what I heard, but also by what I saw. Here was this grown man dressed in all purple, ruffles, and knee-high boots, hitting some of the highest musical notes I had ever heard. I was fascinated! His ensemble and style was mesmerizing. The verdict was in: I HAD to have a ruffle shirt immediately. Luckily, it was the mid 1990s and that whole 1970s ruffly shirt thing was in – again.
Being a musician is not easy. Not only does one have to focus on creating a signature sound that makes he or she stand out amongst his or her counterparts; creating a signature look to match is important as well. Fashion and music will forever be linked; they play a very important part in our everyday lifestyle and ultimately help shape our identities. The public often looks to musicians for fashion inspiration. All skilled musicians know that the right ensemble can make or break their career. This is why Moxy Creative created Ensemble: The Style of Music; a series of prints featuring Iconic Outfits from 20 Male Musicians.
The posters were designed by Glenn Michael of Moxy Creative House and illustrated by James Alexander. Jim Morrison, Johnny Cash, Kurt Cobain, Kiss, Chet Baker, Michael Jackson, Run DMC, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Prince, Kanye West, Marvin Gaye, The Ramones, Andre 3000, Pharell Williams, Brandon Flowers, Pete Doherty, The Beatles, and Miles Davis all have featured print designs. You can purchase the 11.75″ x 15.5″ prints from Moxy House Creative for $30.00. Check out a few of my favorite prints below. Which are your favorites?
