Hello Kitty! Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary Celebration with Small Gift Los Angeles

For a brand as huge as Sanrio, a simple party wouldn’t cut it when planning an event to celebrate their 50th year in business. No, you would probably have to rent out an airplane hanger, bring in a ferriswheel and give fans of the long lasting brand the night of their dreams. It was clear that Small Gift Los Angeles knew how important this celebration was and took it very seriously!

Small Gift Los Angeles is a 10 day carnival-style event celebrating Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary held in the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica. The 10 -day event kicked  off last Thursday with an exclusive VIP/Press opening that was a thing of your little Pochacco dreams. The event gave press and guests a chance to check out some of the great things Sanrio has done and some of the projects still in the works.

smallgift_2One of the big announcements on display was the Sephora X Sanrio collection of beauty products. The line included from what I gathered nail polish, eye and lip make up as well as scents in the form of lotions and perfumes. The entire line will be available in Sephora stores nation wide January 2011. I can tell you now their nail polish colors are sick and come in the cutestest little Hello Kitty glass shaped bottles. Also, the check and lip stains (of which I am totally sold on) are worth checking out.

The pop-up shop in side the event was selling some really cute items including the Hello Kitty plush bow headband everyone was rocking that night! Also in the store were every stuffed Sanrio character you could think of, laptop cases, jewelry, pens, candy and much much more!

Another huge attraction for the night, aside from the put-put golf course, was the art exhibit. The pop culture shop, Japan LA sponsored the art exhibit were fans could check out famous Sanrio characters and themes reworked. Some of the art projects were out of this world, like this graffiti inspired one above with child sized sculptures of twisted Sanrio characters.

The art exhibit sponsored by Japan LA was curated by its owner and very cool lady, Jamie Rivadeneira. Fifty top artists
participated including Buff Monster, Gary Baseman, Paul Frank Sunich, Crowded Teeth, Natalia Fabia, Simone Legno, and
many others.  Artwork was on sale, originals for the ballers and prints for the rest of us; with a portion of the proceeds going to Los Angeles based L.A. Works.

The larger than life event brought out the stars including Pete Wentz, Ashlee Simpson, Kimora Lee Simmons, Bridget Marquardt, Lisa Ling, Erik Estrada, Nolan Gould (Modern Family) and Ryan Ochoa (iCarly). For an even better peak into the event, check out our exclusive video from the night!
