The 1960s were a time when being youthful was priority. The baby boomers were in their teens and out to have fun. They don’t call them the ‘swinging sixties’ for nothing. Barbie dolls, Woodstock, and Where the Wild Things Arewere all creations of the 1960s that have carried over into present day society. Now, sixties fashion is upon us once again. Why wouldn’t it make a comeback? Its classic.
This Fall’s ready-to-wear collections were saturated with sixties styles. Full skirts, cardigans, and kitten heels all made an appearance on New York Fashion Week runways. Louis Vuitton put the decade’s duds at the forefront of his collection. You know my motto, simplicity is key. The sixties designs maximized that statement to its full potential.
The basic layout of 1960s fashion is clean cut and conservative. I like to call fashion from the sixties ‘ladylike’ wear. Women back in that decade didn’t show skin (until mod kicked in that is). The ladies on Mad Men are prime examples of how to sport a knee length dress and kitten heels properly. They’re classy ladies with just enough sex appeal to make the boys tip their hats. To sex up your look, accessories and makeup are key. A bright red lip or smoky eye paired with a lengthening mascara is a nice touch. A pearl or gold necklace to accent your neckline is another idea. As far as incorporating the era’s trends into everyday fashion, just do it. Classic items will be forever deemed fashionable.
