What to do in DC: The Hawk ‘n Dove

You can’t throw a Congressional intern without hitting a dive bar in DC, but if you’re looking for a place where you can get some political discourse with your dingy surroundings then you might as well hit up the Hawk ‘n’ Dove.  Dark, dusty, and decorated with the portraits of many of America’s former and more popular leaders, the Hawk ‘n’ Dove has long been the place where Congressional members and their aides go to grab a drink at one of the four bars after a hard day of political bickering debate and hashing out legislation.  There are different happy hour drink specials going on throughout the week (my favorite being $2 Miller Lites on Wednesdays), and if you so choose you can pair up your beer or cocktail with something from the Hawk’s fairly extensive (for a bar) food menu.  Feel free to indulge in some traditional bar food like nachos, french fries, cheese steaks and BLTs, or go a wee bit more high class with steaks, pasta, and a handful of seafood dishes.  Afterward you can work off all those buffalo wings by shaking what your mama gave you upstairs on the dance floor.

Despite the British sounding name, the Hawk is actually an Irish bar and a great place to grab a pint
