She’s Crafty: D.I.Y. Nail Art

Hello, my name is Clara and I am a compulsive nail polish purchaser. I love sitting in front of the television, with the N.P. table (a.k.a. glorified t.v. tray), my plethora of nail polishes, and just paint my nails. Today, was bonding day with my 14-year-old cousin, Kendra. After a bike ride around the neighborhood, dinner, and playing with my puppy, Napoleon, we both unknowingly took a nap on the sofa.  Surprisingly, we both woke up at 11 o’clock, just in time for the late night showing of Oprah. My mom decided to join us, and there we were, sitting in front of the television. “Let’s paint our nails,” Kendra exclaimed. I remembered a website my friend showed me earlier that day, WAH-Nails, basically it’s like any and every kind of nail design you could think of, those ladies are truly talented. Anyways, Kendra narrowed it down to an Aztec-like design, and here’s a step-by-step on how you can recreate it for yourself!

** You’ll also need a couple more things. I like to keep a few cotton balls handy, some nail polish remover, a couple toothpicks, and an index card.

3. Next, paint your base coats. I find that 2-3 coats works best.

Just place a drop a contrasting nail polish on the index card and, with the toothpick, begin to slowly add a design to each nail. For Kendra’s nails, I began with a fuchsia line across the bottom and made a couple splotches on her ring finger with the excess. Then used the black and white nail polish and added lines, dots, squiggles. Remember, just have fun with it!

  2. Girl, that is some talent! Even with all my patience and these steps, my nails done at home are always somewhat messy. :)
