Thursday night Bloomingdales of San Francisco, along with Vogue magazine, held a private event hosting a presentation of the Ports 1961 Fall collection, including a preview of their Spring 2011 collection. With clients like Olivia Palermo, Debra Messing, and Nicky Hilton, Ports 1961 carries itself with class and feminine sophistication. There were 24 different looks being displayed for our viewing pleasure. Drinks and delicious hors d’oeuvres were being served to an array of San Francisco’s finest. The guest list included Rachel May, Mai Le and the long-time Vintage collector and socialite Joy Bianchi. Needless to say, the room was packed with beautiful people all dressed to impress. Designer Fiona Cibani was also present, ever so lovely and absolutely classy. I spoke with her briefly about the collection, and I was pleasantly surprised when she mentioned bringing back the “old artisan feel into the design aspect” as she was inspired by “engineered nature”. I noticed an array of silks, jersey, leather and corset details throughout the entire collection…I don’t know about you, but I LOVE details and fine craftsmanship. It was refreshing to see a collection that was not only aesthetically pleasing, but very well executed, right down to the shoes!! I’m a sucker for shoes, peoples, – and these were amazing!! And while I’d love to have a pair of those shoes, or the licorice wool & leather-cape coat, I have to settle with the lovely scarf we all received in our gift bags!
I must say, although I have always liked Ports 1961, I am now an even bigger fan. Designer Fiona Cibani is one classy lady, unpretentious and so very sweet; in a world that can be so shallow and surface, it’s so inspiring to meet such a genuine and lovely person.
