M.I.S.S. Muses: An Inspiring Space

M.I.S.S. MUSES An Inspiring Space

A couple weeks back, I found myself in Lynchburg, VA. As the name may indicate to you as it did to me, I was not in for a sexy visit. However, after checking into my room at the Craddock Terry Hotel, my time in the middle of Virginia became a lot more appealing.

The Craddock Terry Hotel is a former factory and a tobacco storage warehouse, currently a boutique hotel on the downtown Lynchburg riverfront. Because of its history, there is a strong theme of shoes in the hotel, which is cute. But when you walk into the guest rooms, the mood turns from “ha, that’s sweet,” to “Wow.” With exposed beams, high ceilings, and views of green hills, the hotel invites you to snuggle up and feel at peace in the rooms.

I snapped some pictures right after getting settled and sent them to a friend. Her response was that I should get out my diary, enjoy the tranquility of the room, reflect, and write a bit. Honestly, I was thinking it was a great place to take a nap and not talk to anybody, but I liked her idea better.

My friend’s encouragement plus my realization of habit got me thinking about how many other inspiring spaces I don’t take advantage of. There are times when I’m at home and I truly enjoy the moment and am inspired. But more often than not, I pass by places, nooks, tidbits of time where I could take in the surroundings or just sit with my own thoughts. I’m habitually in the mindset of “I’m too busy” or “I’m too tired” to appreciate there is pleasant energy around me or that I can create for myself if I’d just give it a minute. Being in the beautiful room in the middle of nowhere was inspiring, but beyond the physical I saw I don’t have to jet off to no man’s land to get some peace; I just have to take a moment to let it in.

I hope each of you has an inspiring space to be in. Whether it’s a vacation, your same ol’ place, in yoga, in the middle of the city, or anything else, take a moment to let your surroundings inspire you, or just be inspired in the midst of them.
