With all this talk about burgers these days, I decided to give you my easy recipe. This past Saturday, we were at the Hester Street Fair and it was National Cheeseburger Day! Bet you didn’t know it! To celebrate, I made these little baby treats. When I was a kid, I was already a food professional. My mom knew it and was constantly hooking me up with cookbooks and such. One in particular was called “Cookies For Kids.” This is an adaptation of their recipe.
Skim’s Candy Burger
- Nilla Wafers
- Peppermint Patties
- Starburst (orange looks best, but yellow would work, too)
- Spice Drops (red)
- White Sesame Seeds
- Fresh Mint
Lightly smear about a quarter size of honey on the top of the Nilla Wafer. Dip this wafer in a small pile of sesame seeds. Slice the Starburst and spice drops. The Starburst is the cheese and the red spice drops are the tomatoes. Pick whole mint leaves and use these as lettuce. Put the unwrapped peppermint patty on a plain Nilla Wafer. Add your fixin’s. I used to cut squares of tin foil and wrap them up like real burgers. Soooo cute!!! Happy belated National Cheeseburger Day!
