Go green...for yourself

Going green for the environment has been a pretty big trend for the past few years.  Why not try going green…for your body?

A vegan diet has been proven to have many health benefits: lowered cholesterol, loss of weight, the prevention of some cancers.   But hows a person used to meat, dairy, and other animal based products supposed to handle the switch to a life filled with delicious vegetables and grains?

Of course, like any worthwhile thing in life these days, there’s an iPhone/iPod Touch app to come to your rescue.  Enter the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart, a free app developed by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine that provides three weeks’ worth of meals, including recipes.   Each day starts with a short tip on healthy eating, followed by that day’s recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and a light snack.  The recipes include checkboxes next to each ingredient, making it a snap to see what you’ll need and what you’ve already got when you’re shopping at the supermarket.  Your favorite recipes can be bookmarked for easy reference,  and there’s a search option in case you feel like flipping the script and making something different on a particular day.

Twenty-one days isn’t so hard, right, and at the end it’s up to you if you want to continue.  But after losing a few pounds and feeling better about yourself, why wouldn’t you?
