If there’s one thing you can count on seeing at a Custo Barcelona runway show, it’s color. Also, fringe. Often, sparkles. This Spring collection held true to the Custo formula with wild solid and mismatched patterned, patched, feathered tie dye bursted…everything but the kitchen sink style collection of mens and women’s wear. I give designer Custo Dalmau credit for rarely following trends (and even when he does, like with sequins for spring 2010, he does it his own way) but I always walk out asking myself, “but who is this customer?”
From the looks of it, she’s a club hopping beach bunny who may have grown up on a hippie commune. And he? I don’t know. A fast talking European? He definitely thinks you want him. He doesn’t like to wear shirts. Of all the shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion week, Custo Barcelona hangs pretty loose and to the left, with an attention grabbing whimsical party attitude akin to stepping into a music video.
