What to do in DC: Lettie Gooch

Lettie Gooch, a boutique that's home to a style all its own

DC is famous for many things: it’s abundance of free museums, more monuments than you can shake a pile of sticks at, good food, and more than a handful of political scandals.  It is not, however, well known for being flooded with high fashion boutiques.  There is one shining star in the boutique black hole in the form of Lettie Gooch, a small boutique that brings a little bit of a Greenwich Village vibe to the U Street corridor.  Named after the owner’s  grandmother, Lettie Gooch carries clothing and accessories inspired by the essence  of its namesake’s funky, feminine, and refined style.  Well known labels like Mixie, Level99, Mynk, and House of Dereon sit next to items by lesser known and local labels like Jack Blue, Orion London, and Morenatum.  There’s plenty of unique items you can’t get anywhere else in the city, like seer sucker suits and custom handbags, and while some of them can be on the more expensive side there’s a huge sale rack where great stuff can usually be had for 50% off the listed price.  It’s difficult to go in there and not come out with something to brag to your friends about.
