Mac Miller's K.I.D.S. Mixtape

Mac Miller's "K.I.D.S." Mixtape

♥♥ The cover alone was enough to make me check out Mac Miller’s highly anticipated mixtape, K.I.D.S. (Kickin’ Incredibly Dope Shit).  This 18 year old Pittsburg native is a recent high school grad and one of the newest members of Rostrum Records.  Given the amount of hype surrounding this particular release, I’m glad that I wasn’t disappointed.  The beat selection is crazy and Mac Miller definitely earns points for keeping the guest appearances to a minimum.   The reference to Larry Clark’s classic movie by the same name is pretty cool too! Download K.I.D.S. at Datpiff.

Maluca's "China Food" Mixtape

Maluca's "China Food" Mixtape

♥♥ On Maluca’s Chinafood mixtape, the reigning club queen takes us on a biographical journey of the past, present, and future. Mixed by Paul Devro of the Mad Decent camp, the Dominican beauty’s genre-hopping, feel-good, cutting edge release is full of tracks to get any party started (with a runway fit for vogue dipping of course)! The mixtape also features appearances from Proxy, Don Omar, Jay Karan, and more! Download or stream China Food on Bandcamp!

Madlib Medicine Show #8: Advanced Jazz

Madlib Medicine Show #8: Advanced Jazz

♥♥ Check out the album artwork for Madlib’s Medicine Show #8. The front & back cover is a spin on the 1851 oil-on-canvas painting “Jazzcats Crossing the Hudson” by German American artist Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze. The CD contains an 8-page booklet and detailed look at the artwork featuring jazz greats such as Miles Davis, Coltrane, and Sa-Ra.  Advanced Jazz is Madlib’s latest installment in the Medicine Show series.  With jazz music as his first love and inspiration, this is sure to be classic, funky, and obscure in a way that only Madlib can master! The estimated release date is August 24th on Stones Throw Records!

Kanye West's "Power" Remix

Kanye West's "Power" Remix

♥♥ Kanye West hooks up with Mos Def, Swizz Beatz, and….Kobe Bryant  for the “Power” remix? Maybe a Justin Bieber collabo will be next.  They’re totally B.F.F.s on twitter!

Full Crate vs. Floetry – Fantasise Variation

Full Crate vs. Floetry – Fantasise Variation

♥♥ I sure do miss HBO’s Def Poetry Jam. The weekly program that showcased spoken word artists, poets, and musicians from all over the globe was a favorite of mine, which is why I’m in love with Full Crate vs. Floetry – Fantasise Variation. For this absolutely beautiful track, Amsterdam resident Full Crate (of Full Crate & Mar) used Floetry’s piece “Fantasise” from the show and combined it with the missing element of music.  Let’s hope that this is just the start of more goodies like this one!  Take a listen to Full Crate vs. Floetry – Fantasise Variation and download at Pinboard Blog.

Colin Munroe

Colin Munroe covers Prince

♥♥ Canadian singer/songwriter/producer Colin Munroe made an incredible cover of Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U”, turning it into a certified, electronica-feel banger! Listen to the track and read more about the future plans of this up-and-comer at Soul Culture!

♥♥ Cherie Currie, the lead singer of The Runaways talks about Dakota Fanning and her wild years as the world’s first teenage glam-rock rebel with Dazed Digital.
