Michael J. Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)

August 29, 2010 marks what would have been Michael Jackson’s 52nd birthday. As we celebrate his life and legacy, we are reminded of the contributions that he made not only to music, but to society as a whole. It seems as if no single artist has touched the world the way that Michael Jackson did. He broke racial barriers and forced mainstream Pop to acknowledge his presence and impact around the globe. He was an undeniable musical genius who even today continues to inspire the nation and through his songs and message of love.

In despite all of his demons, Michael Jackson found the strength and courage to give of himself so selflessly that his gifts were felt by the entire world. There simply will never be another like him. I’m proud to honor the man who single-handedly changed the face of music and brought the world to a complete stand-still with news of his passing. He was far from perfect. He has definitely had his share of scandals, but the world respected his talent and vision. Michael taught us about music, people, and most importantly: LOVE. From him we learned that it’s ok to be different, to follow our dreams, and to give with an open and pure heart.

While it is important to remember the day that someone passes, it is equally important to remember the day that they were given to the world. With that said, I join forces with many around the world to say, “Happy Birthday Michael Jackson! Your music will continue to live on and inspire generations to come!”

It seems as if everyone has a favorite Michael Jackson moment or story. Today I urge you to listen to his music and “remember the time” that you fell in love with Michael Jackson.
