♥♥Lady Gaga hasn’t even been in the spotlight for more than a few years, and she’s already changing the rules of the music game. Despite her popularity, Gaga was not included as a Grammy nominee in last year’s (2009) category for Best New Artist. According to the former nomination guidelines, one could not be considered for this particular “new artist” Grammy if he or she had EVER appeared on any Grammy-nominated recording in the past. Because Gaga’s first single, “Just Dance”, was nominated for Best Dance Recording in 2008, she was automatically disqualified from being considered a “New Artist” in 2009. Although one of her songs was nominated in 2008, Lady Gaga did not have a full-length release out until after 2008 – and many argue she was gypped of the 2009 title as the result of a minor rule technicality. This whole sitch prompted the Grammy board to revise the rulebook, and now all new artists will be eligible for a Best New Artist nomination UNLESS:
1.They have previously released an album, or,
2.Have previously won a Grammy.
This gives breaking artists more leeway, and affords them more time to actually develop a fan base.
♥♥XLR8R Magazine recently taunted rapper/producer El-P via Tweet and jokingly challenged him to create a remix for the a cappella version of Justin Bieber’s song “Baby”. El-P actually replied and sent the mag a remix, which he is calling Baby El-P Death Remix. Check it out, and also listen for snippets of Wings’ song “Live and Let Die”. Now let’s see El-P remix that Bieber haircut!
♥♥Check out the sneak peek of the music video for Cee-Lo’s cover of Band Of Horses’ “No One’s Gonna Love You”, which will be released this fall on the album Cee-Lo Green Is the Lady Killer. NSFW ALERT: There is a brief flash of hipster boobie in the video, so please try to watch the video at your cubicle before the bossman arrives. It’s not offensive, but a nipple warning is still warranted, nonetheless.
♥♥If you have ever tried to search for a Prince video on Youtube, you already know that Prince’s copyright lawyers have the internet on LOCKDOWN. Prince has always made sure he got his money first over everything else, and even went as far as charging a membership fee online in order to logon and gain access to his New Power Generation website. According to a recent interview with The Daily Sun, Prince is now denouncing iTunes and will not make his upcoming album, 20Ten, available for download. Instead, he plans to give the album away in newspapers and magazines (publications like The Mirror, who will, presumably, pay him to distribute the album with the publication.).
Prince is claiming the Internet is ‘”over” and plans to market his music on newsstands?? Does he know that print is dead? He told The Mirror: “Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers, and that can’t be good for you.”
(Really? Numbers – like 20Ten, Prince darling?). Prince is beginning to sound like someone’s cantankerous old grandfather.

♥♥Although the official release date of M.I.A.’s Maya is not until 7/13, you can already stream/listen to the album in its entirety on her MySpace page.
♥♥TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek is releasing a solo album under the name Maximum Balloon. Check out the track “If You Return,” featuring Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano.
♥♥New Mylo & Sharooz remix of Robyn’s “Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do”, which will be on her upcoming album Body Talk PT.1 She spends the song complaining about the things that get on her nerves. I can relate, especially with the line “My email’s killin’ me.”
♥♥A little bit Scarface soundtrack, a little bit symphony orchestra, Rick Ross’ “Maybach Music 3” is just simply better than a lot of the other rap songs this summer. It’s produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and features T.I., Jadakiss, and Erykah Badu.
